Turn your Smartphone into microscope with a revolutionary lens

The idea of this young American will delight photography enthusiasts and curious of you. His project is nothing but placing a microscopic lens directly on the lens of your cell, which can be done easily and very quickly. In the meantime, DGS invites you to discover how it all works. Thomas Larson, a graduate of Mechanical Engineering (Mechatronics option) from the University of Washington will undoubtedly revolutionize the world of photography precision. His project microscopic lens, it is enough to juxtapose the purpose of your Smartphone, will simply allow all Apple, Android or other users to transform their devices as pocket microscopes.

Once glued to your Smartphone, the lens magnifies up to 15 times the original image and helps to photograph invisible to the naked eye details and hitherto impossible to capture with a single phone. The Kick starter campaign launched by the young has exceeded the expected amount of $ 5000 (and has reached more than $ 91,000 in just 21 days. However, Thomas does not intend to rest on its laurels because this version is really a kind of warm-up before the real project: give life to his second lens even more accurate and efficient able to grow up to 150 than the original image. Thomas would eventually sell his lenses on the Amazon e -commerce site. Finally, these lenses offer a more compact alternative to laboratory microscope ... Relatively speaking, of course. We love the simplicity of the concept, which is based solely on the application of micro lens on the back of a phone that offers quality and precision which is unusual for this kind of devices.

Android overtakes ipad in tablet race

The ipad is the one of the best selling product of Apple Inc; it takes the people in a new dimension and let them to know various types of information through their iPad. iPad received a big check to its dominance. It takes over its presence all over the world; until the release of android tablets, Apple iPad plays a dominant role in market. But android is becoming a popular open source operating software which can be used in both tablets and mobile phone. Release of android tablets by several top leading manufactures has boosts the sales of android tablets in this market which affects the sales of the iPad.
The survey report from the ABI research states that during the second quarter of 2013, the android tablets have overtaken the iPad in volumes. The amount of the total android tablets sold is more than that of the iPad. But the revenue from the android tablets was shared by the various manufacturers; the Apple has taken its whole share of the money. It’s true that no single android tablet manufacturers has comes close to the Apple while compared to the volume of product sold.
As per result of the survey, the android tablets have taken the place by selling devices of different manufacturers. As a whole, the android tablets has sold more than the Apple; but the products are in the combinations of various manufacturers such as Samsung, Asus, Sony, Amazon and more. The Apple has only two products out for the customers. The iPad mini and full-sized iPad are available still in the market. The android has slightly takes the count but it has to be split into many different ways according to the manufacturers.
When compared to the profit, apple has spent more money in promoting their products through various advertisement programs. In 2013, the apple has heavily promoted its product and most of the products which were sold in the quarters of 2013 are only iPad Mini. This has reduced down the amount of the income for the Apple. But android has taken a lead in different meaningful way; the amount of profit per product has comparatively high while compared to iPad. The rumor mill has stated that the apple has its own plan for boost up the sales of its product to regain its first place.

Sound at your Fingertips

Technology from Disney Research, Pittsburgh has come out with a device which transmits sound through human touch. It is a new invention that enables you to record messages to friends that can be heard with a touch of your finger to the earlobes. With the help of your finger and another person’s ear, together forms a speaker that helps the other person to hear your message. Ishin-Den-Shin so called is named after a Japanese mantra which represents unspoken understanding and speaks into a standard microphone which is then converted into an inaudible signal which tends to get audible when the speaker touches another person’s earlobes. The sound can be transmitted from body to body with the help of any physical contact though it can only be heard by the person whose earlobe is touched and this technology won the honors at Ars Electronica Festival in Linz, Austria. This system depends on a special microphone created by Disney Research engineers, wherein the sound is recorded and rendered into a high voltage, low current and in an inaudible signal. The sound can only be heard when someone holding the microphone touches the fingers to another person’s ears. The sound can also move through multiple bodies if the person A holding the microphone touches person B’s shoulder while at the same time person C’s ear for the sound to be transmitted to the person C.

Human bodies are capable of transmitting sound as electrical signals and using the human body to conduct sound is becoming common in the recent years. One of the most popular methods is the bone conduction which brings sound directly to the inner ear through bones in the skull and which is found in some head phones enabling hearing aids and in Google’s Glass. The system used by Disney Research is an electrostatic field which forms around the speaker’s skin and creates a vibration when it comes in contact with the person’s earlobe. The Ishin-Den-Shin system, which includes a hand held microphone, is connected to a computer. It operates when the speaker speaks into the microphone and the computer changes the sound into looped recording. This recording is then converted into high voltage, low current inaudible signal, which flows into the thin wires connected to the interior of the microphone. The looped inaudible signal then creates a modulated electrostatic field thus producing a tiny vibration as the fingers touch the ear, forming a speaker. The Ishin-Den-Shin system can be used for everyday activities for interactive sound devices without the need of any special instrument. It could help to explore new avenues for inter personal communication and can be used to transfer sound from one person to another with the use of our bodies which has the capabilities of a conductor of sound

Travel on Magnetic Levitation (MagLev) Train over 500km / h

Are you dreamed of boarding a floating train, then you have to go to Japan now! Yes, The Japanese have done it! Known as JR Maglev, the magnetic levitation vehicle has successful in their last test, the attain an impressive speed of 500 km / h! The Central Japan Railway Company has revived their test maglev train. Currently, the longest and fastest in the world, JR Maglev (abbreviation for magnetic levitation) was tested on a line for about 42 kilometers. The machine has reached a speed of nearly 500 kilometers per hour. After five successive test stops and some project years, Japanese finally begin to build a magnetic line connecting the two cities Nogoya and Tokyo. A journey of about 285 kilometers, which normally lasts 95 minutes and with this high-speed train, will be reduced to 40 minutes by 2027. For comparison, the Amtraks Acela Express makes the journey from Boston to New York takes about 3 hours and 40 minutes to cover the 338 kilometers. A distance that can be traveled less than an hour by JR Maglev. By 2045, JR Central hopes to expand the line to Osaka, which will reduce the number of passengers who frequently take flights between the two cities. When it is built, the magnetic line reread Tokyo airport to train at low speed Nagoya. The latter part of other rail systems that use magnetic rails to reduce friction problems but also offer more stability.

While the Japanese magnetic process promises an impressive technology, it still reins some concern on the part of the Japanese people who think that the machine is not large enough to support its weight. By itself, the extension of the line up to Nagoya will cost between 52 and 90 billion, mainly because of the mountainous landscape and towns that make it difficult to achieve straight rails. According to the Bloomberg financial group, there is a good chance that the building faces significant delays. Fortunately, JR Central is a highly profitable business with a history that allowed making big profits and thanks to its current high-speed trains. The company had cash of $ 2.95 billion according to their latest financial report. With a number of loan and bond that can easily allow the financing of an infrastructure project of this magnitude. It will take a little longer to appear before the floating trains that could change the way we travel and allow us to move much faster.

GoPro Studio 2.0

GoPro has just put online the second version of its video editing software Studio 2.0. This version offers "model fitting” with soundtrack, combos and special effects already set, you just have to insert your videos. Good news is that even without a GoPro you can enjoy. It has been almost a year since GoPro launched its new range of cameras: HD Hero 3. The basic principle remains the same, a small box with a small control panel, but the specifications were revised upwards, including the Black Edition which can record 4K video at 12 fps and 120 fps in 720p. A first application was already available, GoPro CineForm Studio, but with GoPro Studio 2.0 the company wants to simplify the often tedious step of installation. "We have selected our most popular videos and we transformed into models of GoPro mounts to help you design a great mount very quickly. Music, mount points, the slow-motion effects and more are already set, so you only have to replace this video clip with your own. " For the moment, only four models are available, each representing a viral video, which also serves as advertising for the brand, which was performed using a GoPro Dubstep Baby, Laser Cats, Ocotillo Desert Lines and Pool Party etc. GoPro states that new models will be added regularly. Whatever it may be, you selected the one you want, then just replace the pieces videos by yours and, if necessary, add text. It seems against not change the length of the shots, but for this you can use a blank template and fill as desired. As we have noted, there is no obligation to have a GoPro or videos captured on a GoPro to use Studio 2.0, perform editing and finally export your achievement. A good practice that allows everyone to enjoy.

Apple announces 'Touch ID' for iPhone 5S

The emergence of a fingerprint reader allows the new Apple Smartphone to improve its security. This is the main and almost the only real innovation of the iPhone 5s by adding a fingerprint reader, which is quietly inserted into the new Home button on the device. “Touch ID” which will unlock your Smartphone by simply waving your thumb to the button without pressing. The user can also validate his purchases on the App Store and iTunes but not elsewhere, since this iPhone does not support NFC. It is also an additional protection against theft or false manipulations. But it is the business that is referred to this component. We know employees use more and more of their personal devices for work tasks, connect to their corporate network, this is the BYOD (bring your own device) trend. The iPhone is obviously well placed in this field, but IT managers who need to manage this new type of fleets sometimes regret the lack of security of the terminal, especially when faced with competing solutions.

With Touch ID, Apple clearly meets this requirement of securing BYOD with a powerful biometric solution that could bury those pesky passwords. Powerful because Apple says the A7 chip in the terminal, a 64- bit processor, is especially dedicated to the management and the strength of the encryption. The iPhone can also now boast of offering two-factor authentication. The most riding on the security companies can indeed impose fingerprint reading AND a password to unlock the device. So the apple climbs its upscale terminal to a new level of security and intends to strengthen its presence in business when BlackBerry is sinking. As for Android, it does not really favor with CIOs.

It is also necessary that its technology is really developed. Biometrics is a technology and Touch -sensitive ID must demonstrate its reliability in a professional sense. According to the first taken in hand, the Touch ID configuration takes only 30 seconds. The function will also demonstrate its robustness against attacks. Because these technologies are fragile; it will be recalled that the facial recognition of Android 4.0 was diverted in two shots ladle. Again, with the help of the chip, Apple promises a maximum shielding. The issue of databases generated by Touch ID also raises questions. Where and how these data will be stored? Apple ensures that they will not be stored in the cloud.

This speaker is completely made of a transparent thin film of rubber sandwiched between two layers of gel, consisting, inter alia, saltwater and the latter act as electrodes. When the gel layers are traversed by an electric signal, the rubber disc shrinks and expands successively, and very quickly. This vibratory movement then emits high frequency sounds in the same way as would a speaker can do. This transparent model can reproduce all the sounds in the audible range of human hearing, i.e. 20 Hz to 20 kHz, as shown in this video. They are not yet to come into your living room next to equip a stereo. Jeong- Yun Sun and colleagues at SEAS (Harvard School of Engineering and Applied Sciences) built this prototype primarily as a technology demonstrator. Their goal is to show that it is possible to transit electric charges and therefore produce a stream of pulses by using not by electrons as usual, but the ions. This experience of Harvard University, Massachusetts is a major step in the development of the technology of ionic conduction. Indeed, researchers have managed the feat twice to develop a device that not only withstand high voltages, but also is able to change its structure very quickly.

The ions are much heavier than electrons and bulky chemical species, and therefore they move more slowly. Compared to conventional electrical conductors, ion conductors have several advantages. First, they can stretch to several times their length without changing their resistivity. Then their transparency opens the door for many optical applications. Finally, they are biocompatible, making them prime candidates for the implementation of artificial skin or muscles. Among other applications, the researchers believe such a high transparent speaker glued directly on a TV screen, Smartphone or tablet, and directly emit sound from the entire surface of the device. Such a device attached to the windows of an apartment could be used to actively cancel sound from outside. But researchers are also thinking of glasses able to adapt their length or even the “soft machines."

LG to launch 8.3-inch G Pad tablet at IFA 2013

LG presented the new Android tablet 8.3 inch LG at IFA, and is impressed by the quality of its full HD screen and slim design. Announced earlier this week, the LG G Pad 8.3 inch has not received much attention. We had to wait to discover the IFA for the first returns begin to happen. They are unanimously enthusiastic, citing a tablet to rival to the two references that are mini iPad and the new Nexus 7. For starters, its compact design (8.3 mm thick, 12.6 cm wide) and weight (338 grams) make, according to testers, it is also easy gripping a 7-inch tablet. Enthusiasm for the quality of the screen, the first of this size to be displayed in full HD 1920x1200 pixels. Very good return for your investment as the performance of the tablet, and torque processor (Snapdragon 600 quadruple heart 1.7 GHz) - RAM 2 GB provides good comfort. The internal storage of 16 GB can be expanded via a microSD card. There is QPair application to connect to a Smartphone via Bluetooth to receive text messages and make calls. That compensates for the lack of a 3G version. In fact, the only downside is the presence of Android 4.2.2 instead of the latest version 4.3. We hope soon they will correct this failure in their next update. LG G pad 8.3  will arrive soon and could be one of the best sellers of this season, provided that its price has not been disclosed, but it  is sufficiently competitive.

Wacom Cintiq 13HD

With the graphics tablet from Wacom Cintiq 13HD we can quickly and precisely edit photos. And can Exempt persons with wind-blown hair on photos, Reflective surfaces in matt structures transform. With the mouse that works even with the Wacom Cintiq 13HD, it was in the test but much more accurate and much faster. The 13 inch wide Cintiq is no ordinary Windows or Android tablet; it shows the exact contents of a PC monitor connected to it in such an open image with Photoshop. He can, however, use it as a second monitor for enlarged work surface for images. The screen displays photos and graphics in Full HD with 1920x1080 pixels. To make some color adjustments to an image region, the user can use the stylus. Together with the Wacom pen provides ten easy options with pen. For example, you can draw thick or thin lines of various measures with the pen. And the pen also determines how strong the user presses on the tablet. So with the pressure you can create strong and fine lines. According to the manufacturer the pin determined up to 2,048 levels of pressure. And also the pen just reverses and serves as an eraser. With the tablet you can create or customize fonts and drawings by following the illustration. This works like a sheet of paper: Unlike the drawing with the mouse, the Cintiq brings natural hand movements faithfully to the screen. The Wacom Cintiq works a lot easier. It works exactly and saves a lot of time - but it is damn expensive.

IBM Strikes Gold with $1 Billion Cloud Computing Deal

Few companies have been able to strike as huge a contract as IBM just did with the Department of the Interior. With a $1 billion ten-year contract, IBM has agreed to assist in the transition of the department's networks to a cloud computing infrastructure. IBM, along with nine other companies, was selected to assist with this tremendous endeavor. Drawing on the success of IBM's data storage practices, the strength of its database solutions, its ability to host websites, and many other factors, the Department of the Interior is hoping that this contract will help them with cost-saving measures while providing a secure solution for its ever-growing network of computers and devices.

IBM has a long history of providing technological and networking solutions for federal and state government contracts. With their recent success in the emergence of the cloud computing market, IBM has been at the forefront of development of new services and security in cloud computing. As a result, investors and agencies are all flocking to IBM to assist in the transition from traditional networks to more versatile and secure cloud-based solutions.

The $1 billion contract over ten years is only part of the Department of the Interior’s massive IT budget, which allocates nearly $1 billion a year for the department’s IT needs. With sixteen agencies reporting to the department that manage everything from national parks to relationships with Native American tribes, the department has a wide array of needs. Due to IBM's diverse offerings and portfolio of cloud-based solutions, the transition to the cloud is expected to save the department a tremendous amount of money as it hopes to close hundreds of data centers across the country.

In addition to the Department of the Interior, the agreement with IBM states that other departments may further utilize cloud-based solutions down the road. IBM and the other contractors hope that this contract is only one of many to come as the government seeks to cut down on its expenses and transition its services to the cloud.

So what does this mean for IBM? As this is the company's largest cloud-based contract with US government to date, IBM will continue to expand its portfolio of cloud-based solutions. In addition, IBM, along with all of the other companies included in the contract, will gain a competitive advantage in the highly competitive cloud services market. As technology analysts have seen in recent months, any edge in this market will give companies the potential for huge profits as the industry continues to balloon.

Industry analysts have predicted that the growth of the cloud computing industry has only just started. With large contracts like this one from the Department of the Interior, cloud-based service providers are expecting to see profits and contracts come streaming in during the next few years. The transition from local networks to cloud-based services on a web host will need to be performed by companies with experience. Few companies have as much experience in a wide variety of industries as IBM. This contract could only be the tip of the iceberg in potential profits for one of the oldest computing companies in the world.

New Sony FDR- AX1 Announced

While the IBC show video opens in Amsterdam; Sony has announced a new camera FDR- AX1, which will be available in late October. This is the first mainstream 4K camera from Sony; it can shoot images with a resolution up to 3840 x 2160 pixels (QFHD). The design of the FDR- AX1 is not new: it is similar to that of the Sony HDR- AX200. It is equipped with a "home" CMOS sensor Exmor R “back-lit” 1/2, 3 inch 12MP, including 8.3 effective. Its goal G Lens 29.5 to 590 mm (20x, f / 1.63 to 3.4) is stabilized and has 3 ND filters. 3 rings to make settings for zoom, focus and iris and are independent to each other. In addition to a microphone, the FDR- AX1 has two audio connectors XLR professional format. 4K videos are saved on expensive XQD cards, a recent XQD format provides efficient transfer rate and was previously used by the Nikon D4. The FDR- AX1 has two locations in this format. Sony want to sell like hotcakes its 4K screens , rather aggressively positioned in terms of quality and price against their Chinese and Korean competitors , it must justify its use until the 4K TV broadcasts becoming widespread.

All Sony ecosystems are called upon to promote 4K, as there was little 3D, from cloud services PlayMemories until the PS4. Some choices Sony for its FDR- AX1 are sometimes a bit surprising for a camera that still costs 4 € 499.01. For example it uses the codec XAVC S placed in a MPEG4- AVC / H.264 container. It is a variant of the more compressed the XAVC/H264 Level version 5.2 codec. More bad news for users who want to go further than holiday movies on YouTube, the colors are sampled 4:2:0. Without going to a 4:4:4 coding or even RAW images, 4:2:2 would have left a significant latitude for color correction, calibration, clipping paths and masks, and other special effects and overlays on " green funds".

The FDR- AX1 is equipped with a single sensor of small size. In the same price range or less, many Full HD models competing not only have 3 sensors, and their size is larger. They record their video with 4:2:2 colors sampling, better than 4:2:0 solution. Sony seems to recommend a minimum of 4 lux for 4K images is more light than most HD cameras require ( the AX200 , very close to the AX1 requires only 1.5 Lux) and that the risk of require users to frequently use other extra light source. Sony has announced an update to make it compatible with the latest HDMI version 2.0 HDMI. The HDMI 2.0 will see a 4K video on a TV at 60 frames / s with a single HDMI cable. In addition, this update adds compatibility with the AVCHD codec and will also use SD cards for 1080p video.

The FDR- AX1 seems quite clear heat, after initial tests published on the Net. The XQD cards would be hot when removed from the camera. Similarly, AX1 which manages large data flows, processes and compresses, heat up quickly despite the internal fan which it is equipped. This also may be a concern for the sound by the internal microphone of the camera emits noise. This should not pose any problems to professional users, resorting instead to external microphones for their shots, but for the general public or semi pro users, high heat and fan trying to remedy it may hinder the sound made with the built-in microphone on the camera.

Analytical tools for measuring the market, and businss and industry publications will keep you in-the-know about what your client wants is the most important part of running a successful business.

Keep your training for your staff on-going and strive to provide the best customer service that you can. And, of course, provide a great product.
  • Take Risks. Taking risks is the only real way to gain rewardsA risk may come in the form of an advertising campaign, taking on a new client, opening a new branch etc…but putting expenditure into your business will hopefully result in a positive outcome further down  the track. Apple Airport Express

Apple Airport Express offers Wi-Fi and AirPlay at an affordable price. For many users, the Airport Express base station is a simple solution for wireless surfing and streaming on your home network. The Big Apple stores in the United States have fewer Airport Express copies in stock. Also, the retail chain Best Buy is no longer able to deliver, according to Apple Insider news. In both cases, customers put off by pointing to a delayed order. The online store of Apple, meanwhile, still shows a delivery time of 24 hours. Usually an increasing scarcity of a particular item indicates the end of each model. Since Apple has not revised the current version of the small wireless station for over a year, is actually expected to happen soon. As a fresh function including support for the new 802.11ac standard is feasible, since Apple already supports this with the current series of the MacBook Air and the Great Airport Extreme wireless station has been upgraded accordingly. Facebook corrects a flaw that allowed removing the photos of other users

Facebook has paid $ 12,500 to a security researcher in India for the discovery of a flaw that allows an attacker, through the identification of a photo and easily delete a photo. Unlike Palestinian hacker Khalil Shreateh, Arul Kumar has received a reward, 12,500 dollars, from Facebook to the discovery and disclosure of a security lapse on the site. The security researcher has discovered on the social network, and more specifically in the setup menus (Support Dashboard), a critical bug. The attack was done from the Facebook menu to send a request to withdraw a photograph published on the social network. These requests can be sent to Facebook or directly to the owner of the image. The process automatically generates a link, which if clicked then automatically generates the suppression of the image. Arul Kumar had found a way to send the request to another recipient and could remove at will and photos on the social network. For this, the attacker needed the id of the photo and the user ID (available on the Facebook Graph). The flaw in it has been corrected by Facebook's security team, and therefore rewarded Arul Kumar.
