Samsung- SmartThings a Roadmap towards Smart Home

Smar_Things
Samsung is taking a huge gamble in terms of Smart-Things, which is all about connecting all the devices in the internet of things. Samsung acquired this start-up nearly a year back and taking the assistance of this system to win this bet. During the 2015 CES (Consumer Electronics Show) conducted last week in Las Vegas, co-CEO Boo-Keun Yoon led the company took the promise that the company’s products would be built on this new platform and they will not only be open but also compatible with other products as well.

According to Yoon, 90% of their products (ranging from refrigerators to smartphones) will easily be able to connect to the web or the internet by 2017. According to him, in the next five years, each and every product listed in the company's entire catalogue can be expected to be connected to internet.

The company is getting prepared for the concept of IoT (Internet of Things), this means that anything can be connected into the internet means of sensors and other technologies. According to the prediction made by Analyst firm Gartner, the total number of devices connected to the network will increase to 26 billion units by 2020. The same number was around 900 million in 2009. This technology was all about changing dumb devices into Smart ones, which can communicate with each other. IoT market is expected to hit as high as $3.04 trillion by 2020.

Samsung and Smart-Things

Smart home start-up Smart-Things was acquired by Samsung in the month of August to increase their sales. Smart-Things technology is all about helping the customers to control their appliance with the help of their smart-watches, smartphones and other smart devices. This technology is being considered as the key to Samsung’s IoT and smart home efforts. They have already released their next generation smart home automation hub.

Cost of the service:

The price is expected to be inexpensive and the idea of this technology is about security. Smart-Things Premium will be able to create an ID of any kind of incident that has occurred in the house.

Samsung TVs preloaded with Smart-Things?

It might take some time for the company to release the TVs preloaded with the feature as the 2015 market is already filled with the existing TVs in the retail channel. There is no set time frame for the existing TVs to replace the existence of separate hubs but depending on the pace of the change in technology, anything can happen anytime.

Even though the company has been having issues with openness but with making their devices open, the company has open the doors for a future, wherein any devices from any company can interconnected. Even though Apple has their own Home-Kit, Samsung is the only company having access to this platform (Windows Phone app) as if now. The company truly believes that there version of hub will be compatible with Apple’s Home-Kit but this is not the same situations from their side. Samsung has been enjoying a huge company base of iOS and they want their customers to have the best of experience.

Corning Taking over the Fiber Optics Division of Samsung

Samsung
According to the recent reports, Corning, which is the U.S. specialty glass maker, will be taking over the fiber optics operations of Samsung. Samsung electronics have agreed to sell over their fiber optics division to Corning. After this deal, Samsung will be exiting another non-core business as they want to focus on enhancing the poorly performing key areas like smartphones. Terms of the sales deal and also the plants in South Korea and China are completely confidential. So this might be a good reason to get disappointed by this development. Due to the increasing competition in the market this news was declared by both the parties involved in this sale. South Korea firm's (Samsung electronics) exiting there for the second time from a business line has not come to shock anybody in the market including the market experts. The company is expected to be hitting the lowest annual profit in past 3 years and this approach has been attributed to the stiff competition in the market. This deal has happened as part of the company's recent management changes.

What made the difference?

One of the top makers of the smartphones around the world, Samsung has been facing quite a competition from market rivals and stuck between the Apple’s iPhones at the top and Chinese rivals like Xiaomi at the lower end. If we see the performance of Samsung Electronics in the last 3 quarters, then we can clearly see that the company's share in the global smartphone industry has declined every year and consistently in every quarter. The company has recently sold out a large amount of shares in the defense as well as chemical divisions.

According to the spokeswoman of Samsung Electronics, they are selling out their fiber optics business as they want to increase their focus on our core business areas. When contacted, Samsung Electronics denied passing any comment regarding the revenue generated by this division. According to the statement generated by the company in October, they are also looking towards putting an end to their light emitting diode lighting business mainly outside the home country. They stated that this business was always considered as  a non-core business.

According to Corning, which supplies glass for Apple Inc smartphones and Samsung, they are considering this deal to further empower their optics business especially in the Asian market. Through this deal Corning is looking forward towards strengthening their position in the Asian market. The company is world known for making the Gorilla Glass.

There has been an increasing use and growth in the technological industry in the Asia Pacific market, and every company is looking forward to encase on this opportunity. While coming to this the perfect time for them is to expand their business and functions. If the reports have to be believed, then this deal is expected to be completed by the first quarter of 2015, simple reason being that the deal is being carried out on a high magnitude.

Samsung Galaxy Alpha

Samsung Galaxy Alpha
With its last release Samsung Galaxy S5 not reaching extraordinary sales in the market, the South Korean company is now releasing a flagship in the Galaxy Series the “Samsung Galaxy Alpha”. Just after a few days of iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus release in the smartphone market. Though a major and a competing move against their arch rivals Apple, this phone just seems to be a mixture of its ancestors and iPhones.

Samsung at last launches a real alpha phone in terms of processing speed, display and camera. But still seems to lag behind in terms of design and storage.

Display and Dimensions:

With 5.2" inch screen it fits easily into the hands and pockets, also feels ease to work with just one hand. The device comes with a dimension of 5.21” x 2.58” x 0.26” and weighs around 115grams. The super AMOLED display is quite good and manages to show about 16M colors, though it is disappointing with 720x1080 pixel screen.

Processor:

With quad core processor, the ease of working with apps and switching between apps is like riding a skateboard on oil with a 2GBof RAM and being said that at the time of release in India it is said to come out with an octa-core processor. Again, thanks to the extraordinary processor, which is worth a major portion of the money invested in buying this phone.

Design:

It feels like Samsung has tried to imitate the iPhone 5 design by giving the phone a metallic ring on the sides, though its ancestors got the same ring around. The device looks like the design is majorly inspired from iPhone 5 while looking through the side view. The back cover design gives the phone a toy look and seems to be a break-with-ease cover. Again, it seems like Samsung imitated the iPhone's thin lock design, when seen from the sides and has the typical Samsung design from front and back. So, On the whole the design seems to be a mediocre increase from the Galaxy S2.

Camera:

Alpha has a 12MP rear camera and 2.1MP front camera with an LED flash and auto focus option. The quality of front camera is quite good when it comes for video calling. The phone's camera has got quite an improvement from the S5, when it comes to the quality of pictures that are captured in the dark. Still, it feels like the camera can be improved a lot like it is with other smartphones (Sony, iPhone, Nokia) in the market of the same price level.

Memory:

The phone has got a 32GB internal storage, and the device has no extension slot for extending the device memory. 2 GB of RAM allows the users to run multiple applications at the same time.

Interface:

It comes with the latest version of Android OS v4.4. It appears like the problems of Samsung phones with Android OS almost disappeared in this phone still a pure android feature would be of a great relief for users.

Samsung’s New Note

Galaxy Note 4
Samsung on 3rd September, 2014 has announced a big-screen phone known as Galaxy Note 4. And it’s even got a companion with the release of Galaxy Note Edge and Gear VR at a media event, ahead of IFA 2014 tech expo in Berlin. Samsung is known for the updating of its existing devices or products and has been proving to do so since many years. Once again it has proved that they are not the loser’s to stay behind and has launched a big screen phone rather we can say it has a Phablet, a week before Apple announced its big screen phone. From this to release, it is proved that Samsung is now more interested to manage the note line that has gained much popularity among the users. So let’s see what’s new with this Phablet.

Features

This new Phablet comes with same 5.7 inch display size as that in note 3. But have successfully updated the display resolution from HD to quad HD. Most of you might think that this high resolution will consume large amount of charge but as per Samsung, they say that despite of this QHD resolution, Note 4 will deliver 7.5% more battery life due to an optimized interface.

Now when we are talking about battery let’s see what more it comes with. It comes with 3,220mAh battery, 20mAh more when compared to Note 3. The phone can be charged from 0-50% within half an hour due to the fast charging technology included in it.

Well. Depending upon the market, Note 4 comes with quad core or octa-core processor. For an Indian market, it comes with octa core processor and an international one has a 2.7GHz quad-core Snapdragon 805 processor. At present, this quad-core processor is the most powerful in the world.

In today’s world, most of the people desire to have more storage capacity in their phone. Well, this might be a drawback for those as it comes only with 3GB of RAM but is expected to push the memory to 4GB. It gives storage option up to 32GB. There’s also a microSD slot to expand the memory up to 64GB.

It comes with high camera pixel. Rare camera has a 16MP resolution. Users can even enjoy the famous trend of selfie with this handset as it comes with 3.7MP front camera which allows taking wide angle selfies.

Software

Coming to the software side, note 4 uses an interface similar to that in Galaxy S5, i.e. Android 4.4.4 Kitkat. To make use of S Pen stylus, additional software too is optimized in it. Multitasking feature is improved when compared to its previous note.

Besides this, the most interesting thing that this note 4 comes with, which is not available in Note 3 is fingerprint sensor that is embedded in the home key along with a heart rate monitor on the back of the handset.

Conclusion

This is really an outstanding and amazing phone released to compete its competitor and hope will be accepted by everyone as it comes with all new technology as per the present world.

Apple VS Samsung: An End of the Never Ending War

Apple VS Samsung
The never resolving issue between the Smartphone giants Apple Inc. and Samsung electronics comes to a final closurewhere both the companies decide to give a rest to all the charges against each other in the countries outside US. What seemed to be a far-fetched idea that these litigations will continue was resolved much quicker that it was anticipated. This will bring peace in the economy of the countries like Australia, France, Japan, Italy, South Korea, Netherlands and United Kingdom.

Issues leading to the Dispute:

The beginning of the economic dispute was started back in 2011 between the millionaire companies Apple Inc. and Samsung, when both the companies started accusing and backstabbing each other for their technologies being used. There might be various reasons behind it, but the major premonitions were the copying of each other’s technologies without permission. Apple blamed Samsung for the use of their iPhone design while Samsung blamed Apple for using their wireless-transmission technology and the camera’s system design.

The dispute intensified to a global scale when Apple blamed Samsung – the Korean electronics giants have copied certain features, thereby producing damage for them worth estimated to be $1 billion.
Apple Inc. and Samsung are holding the flags of the Smartphone market and they have tried to block each other’s sales in different countries in the past years, an unfair mean to gain popularity, and trying to be the dominated leader in the revolutionized electronics market.

The Rise and Downfall of Economy of the Giants:

Both the giants Apple and Samsung in order to glorify the dispute have drained millions of dollars to raise a battalion of lawyers to commence the proceedings of the cases. This has caused a huge economic shortfall in the countries like UK, Netherlands, and France etc. where the disputes have been put to an end.

Sparks started in the federal court in San Jose, California where Apple won victories in two verdicts worth $930 million in 2012 and $120 million in 2014.However, the last trial was embarrassing for Apple since they received far less than they expected.

Economists and Lawyers find the situation deeply intriguing. Law professor of Villanova University, Pennsylvania Michael Risch considers the situation to be just a precursor of the commencement of the next skirmish. He considers that the end of litigations is just a pause of the law battles.

Business Breakdown of the Giants:

Samsung targeted for the economically backward countries so as to gain maximum profit of their inputs. Samsung shipped 74.5 million smartphones in the 2nd quarter of the previous year thereby claiming 25% of the market share. Apple however shipped only 35.2 million smartphones thus claimed only 12% of the market shares. This huge setback for Apple made it furious enough to sue a charge against Samsung.

However, both the firms have dropped their charges against each other in May 2014 to stop the patent-infringement dispute. But they didn’t agree to cross-license each other’s patent. Rockstar Consortium backed Apple while Google, HTC, Morotola backed Samsung in the case of infringement of Android-related patent products.

The final verdict was passed on 6th August 2014 and both the Smartphone giants Apple Inc. and Samsung close their dispute outside USA.

How to Speed Up Your Samsung Android Mobile

Samsung
It’s a big issue when you were using your mobile for more than a year; yes of course, if you were using your android mobile for more than a period of time, it starts to slow down and lag when you were performing an important work or a task in your android device. When you hit the home screen button, your android device will hangs for a while and gives you lots of trouble. In this post, Mono-live.com has brought you an awesome information regarding how to speed up your Samsung android mobile within few minutes and also you can use this tips in any android devices that you have. There are few tips that make your device to work like newer mobile, and here they goes;

1. Clear Your Cache: This will be the first and foremost step that allows you to reduce the size of the cache memory that has been stored in the android device. Cache is a temporary memory that allows you to store the temporary files in your android devices. Mostly each and every application that is found in the device will use some cache memory for their performance. Clearing that cache memory will speed up the device and also gives more space for the other program to work more efficiently. If you want to clear the cache memory, go to settings then application and there you can clear the cache memory for each and every application that is running in your mobile devices.

2. Remove Widgets from your Home screen: The Widgets and the shortcuts that are present in the screen of the android devices will consume the memory space and also it will consume some part of processors memory. In the meantime, it will increase the memory capacity of the device. So make sure that, the number of widgets and the shortcuts on the homescreen is very less in number. You can simply remove them by long pressing them and move it to the deletion area.

3. Disable the unused applications in your android devices: By Disabling the unwanted or unused applications in the android devices will reduce the memory space in your mobile and also allows the processor to work more efficiently. If you have rooted your mobile, then you can easily remove the system applications that are coming along with the android devices. You can easily remove all unwanted and unnecessary applications by simply rooting your mobile. Otherwise you can uninstall the applications that you have installed manually.

4. Install a Launcher: Launchers are the applications that control the activity of your phone say Desktop Screen, Lock Screen and so on. You can install an application that is very fast and more productivity. I would prefer Lighting Launcher; it is more effective in nature.

By performing these actions, you can easily improve the speed of your mobile within few minutes and you can feel it as like a newer mobile.

Samsung Develops A Device To Turn Hands Into Virtual Keyboard

Samsung Virtual Keyboard

Samsung Virtual Keyboard 2
Just Imagine you meet someone in the street with his thumbs typing frantically on his knuckles. Thus Samsung imagined the future, and designed their virtual keyboard, through augmented reality glasses, would be projected on the user's fingers. And our fingers are sufficient for themselves. Rather than tapping on a keyboard, the Samsung engineers have created a technology virtual keyboard where the keys are placed on the fingers towards the palm of the hand, with wearable device connected.

Thumbs are free and have the sole purpose of tapping fingers. The display characters would, in turn, the three phalanges of the remaining 8 fingers. According to the pictures of the patent, it would also be possible to have only one hand on which is reflected letters, and the organization could depend on the comfort of the user, which would have the choice of putting his hands to the horizontally or vertically of his convenience. Today, we know that Samsung is planning a release of these connected in the course of the year, in the wake of Google Glass glasses.

And that's what patent filed with the World Intellectual protection (WIPO), between the glasses connected to this revolutionary system that could delight geeks. And this is even more impressive as the holographic keyboard device. Visible inside the phalanges with the glasses, the letters are there and so it is possible to write a message. This may be an alternative to speech recognition. Two things are singled out in the patent reported by futura - sciences. Malfunction of voice recognition in noisy environments and the lack of discretion and confidentiality and speak aloud. Such a system is still very futuristic; hard to imagine tomorrow it will be only between our fingers.

To guess which letter is typed, the system will have to analyze the movements with precision. Not an easy task! And that success is complete, it will equip the glasses with sophisticated technology and it may be more expensive. Clearly, it is impossible today to say that this virtual keyboard will come to market one day, or even a prototype is created in the future, unlike the holographic keyboards, whose demonstrations have impressed much of the Web.

Although the dates are mentioned, but at least a list of devices of Samsung for which an update to Android 4.4  Kitkat is planned.

The corresponding list and details were received from a person who is involved in the update plans from Samsung. Thus, six different Galaxy Smartphones, a Galaxy Tab and Galaxy note three models will get an update to Kitkat. From December 2013 to till end of Jan.2014 the Galaxy S4 and the Galaxy Note 3 has received an Android 4.4 Update. But still firmware updates is pending few part of Europe.

And it is expected that Galaxy S4 will receive kitkat update in the forth coming weeks. In addition, Samsung will provide an update to Android 4.4 for the Galaxy S3 Smartphone models, Galaxy S3 Mini, Galaxy S4 Active, Galaxy S4 Zoom as well as the Galaxy Mega 6.3. It is quite unusual that although the Galaxy S3 Mini will get an update, but not the S4 Galaxy Mini. If Samsung is not significantly ramps up this list, the vast majority of current Galaxy Smartphones remains excluded from the update.

In addition to the Galaxy Note 3 should and even its predecessor, the Galaxy Note 2 will receive an update on the current Android version. In addition, the Kitkat update for the Galaxy Note 8.0 is planned. Whether the Galaxy Note 10.1 receives update to Android 4.4, is not known. It is envisaged to Android 4.4 for the Galaxy Tab 7.0 an update 3. Therefore there is no update is currently planned for other Samsung tablets.

It remains to hope that Samsung still do the best at the earliest. On the other hand, this would mean that almost all Galaxy Tab models are excluded from the update. This would also apply to the Galaxy Tab 3 7.0 Lite, which has just come on the market in even with Android 4.2 and some with Android 4.3. Samsung there is no official confirmation about what Galaxy models will get an update to Android 4.4.

Samsung Disables Third-Party Accessories In Galaxy Note 3 with KitKat Update

Galaxy Note 3
The Galaxy Note 3 will be the first Samsung device, which only works with licensed accessories and disables the third party accessories. If third-party accessories offered without a matching chip, special functions are no longer available after the update has been deployed on Android 4.4. In U.S., Samsung distributed already the update for the Galaxy Note 3 to the latest Android 4.4 Kitkat.

After the update the third-party accessories may no longer work. Note that you may watch that the people are complaining in xda forum. The users report that the Galaxy Note 3 is no longer reasonable to work with Android 4.4 with a special S -View case. The shell supports the S -view window function to display information on the cover.

In addition there is a transparent area on the screen coverage is reduced when closing the cover. Exactly this function no longer works correctly after recording the update. In addition, the cover has a special home button, which also is not working as desired after the update. Reason for this is that the Spigen sleeve is missing a Samsung chip. A user at xda - forum has taken the chip from an original Samsung Case and incorporated into the Spigen cover.

Then the S- Window function was active again, but the home button on the jacket still refused their service. Already in October 2013, there were initial reports that Samsung uses a special chip which will allow only licensed accessories. This project used by Samsung for the first time with the Kitkat update for the Galaxy Note 3. It is assumed that similar changes occur also for other Galaxy devices soon. When Galaxy Note 3 is rooted provided with Android Kitkat; the query for the Samsung chip can be disabled so that the S -View- Windows function runs again.

Samsung SSD 840 Series mSATA Evo has up to one TB space

Samsung 840 EVO mSATA SSD
Samsung's new mSATA SSDs score now with large memory. A terabyte is currently the record for small SSDs. Samsung's small SSD mSATA series 840EVO weighs just 8.5 ounces and is only four millimeters thick. Super -thin laptops and tablet PCs often need special thin SSDs, they are too thin for conventional hard drives.

Therefore, manufacturers build SSDs in the mSATA format. They are not only thinner but also more compact. A pleasant side effect of this case is more space for the battery. The can be so slightly larger and lasts longer. The only disadvantage of the smaller SSD size is that the mSATA SSDs often did not offer as much space as an SSD in the traditional 2.5 -inch format.

The largest model in the Samsung 840 Evo mSATA stores a terabyte. The new SSD not only provides much storage , Samsung also promises a lot of pace - more than 500 megabytes per second and nearly 100,000 read accesses or write accesses 90,000 per second ( IOPS) should be possible.

That would be much faster than for example the OCZ Vector 150 The mSATA version of Samsung's 840EVO series is four times smaller than a notebook hard drive and easily fits into the Ultrabook. The new SSDs will be available in December. In addition to the expensive one- terabyte version for 615 Euros, there are three smaller sizes also.

Samsung makes quiet push for new mobile OS Tizen

Tizen
So far, Samsung sold devices with Android. But with Tizen the Koreans have an operating system in hand, which is equally suitable for their products like cameras, televisions and refrigerators. Tizen 2.0 Magnolia; The Linux-based operating system is not only suitable for Smartphones and tablets, but also for cameras, televisions and refrigerators.

Samsung's success is currently to a large extent on Smartphones and tablets with Android. However, the operating system is open despite code under the control of Google. With Tizen the Korean company is now having a better alternate operating system, whose development is already well advanced and is even suitable for cameras, televisions and refrigerators.

In addition to the devices are still lacking, especially apps. Samsung is playing a leading role in the development of Tizen and the manufacturer who has already announced products with the software - but still working in the Tizen Association with other well-known companies. This includes manufacturers such as LG, Fujitsu, Huawei, Sharp and Panasonic, mobile companies like Vodafone, Orange, and SK Telecom. But also companies from other areas such as McAfee, Trend Micro or eBay are also take part. Overall, the association has a proud 46 members in 2013 end.

Beginning of November 2013 took advantage of the Samsung developer conference of Tizen to introduce the NX300M, the first system camera with Tizen OS. Apart from the operating system few differences to Samsung NX300 can be seen. For now, the Tizen camera appears but for around 600 Euros  in South Korea. A Smartphone from Samsung was expected in early 2013.

Currently iOS and Android shares the major Smartphone and tablet pie among themselves. Microsoft manages resistant with Windows Phone. BlackBerry does not matter more and more systems such as Firefox OS, Ubuntu or Jolla have not yet found widespread use. Samsung is now well known enough and has enough power to establish and have financial resources to make it's own operating system on the market.

The development of Tizen OS is already at an advanced stage without equipment for sale - for the beginning of 2014, the version 3.0 is already announced - and if the prospect is that Samsung sells millions of devices, then no developer will want his app withheld from the public, so that the Tizen App Store fills quickly.
