Sony Really Missed the Mark with its MDR-EX750BT h.ear in Wireless Headphones

MDR-EX750BT

Since the time of ‘Walkman’, Sony has been pioneer in the field of sound based equipment. It headphones, speakers and phones speaks volume about its ability to offer enriched high quality sound and music experience to the consumers. Sony’s latest h.ear in Wireless headphone named MDR-EX750BT failed to incite any kind of curiosity and love among its consumers due to the expensive price point. This particular headphone will be sold at a price of $299.95 which is simply too much for anyone to give attention to this headphone. Furthermore it is plagued with a horrible design which looks like an earphones coming out of the necklace.

Sony simply misses on design with new headphones

The h.ear range of headphones being offered by the Sony promises to deliver high resolution of audio quality ever seen before. MDR-EX750BT does well on the sound quality front but it falls flat when it comes to design. It doesn’t look like any conventional headphone rather it appears in the shape of neckband made up of flexible material with earphones protruding out of it. It has bulky stem in plastic but it is made appear more like aluminum.

Sony wanted to surprise it consumers by coming with a new and innovative design but it only ended up confusing the consumers. This new headphone will be made available in a number of bright colors such as viridian blue, lime yellow, cinnabar red, black and Bordeaux pink. Another things missed by the Sony is the comfort factor related to the headphones. It isn’t much comfortable when put around the neck and sometimes plays a spoilsport in performing natural neck movements.

How does MDR-EX750BT works?

Sony MDR EX750BT is a wireless headphone which can be easily paired through Bluetooth. Users are required to hold their phone to right stem of the headphone which has the NFC chip installed in it. Once the headphone gets connected with the Bluetooth users will get response as “powered on” and ‘Bluetooth connected’ in their ear piece.

This headphone simply works flawlessly and can be used for a really long time as much as 7 hours on a stretch. It has zero glitches or dropout which results in a high quality sound and music listening experience. It is powered by a battery which can be easily charged through the micro USB charge socket present on the underside of the stem.

The best thing about this headphone is the ability to support LDAC which allows users to enjoy a relatively high quality wireless audio experience through Bluetooth. LDAC is way better than the conventional Bluetooth Audio as it transmits three times more data than Bluetooth Audio. LDAC transmits at the rate of 990 kbps which results in high quality sound retention in the headphones. However consumers will only be able to get that kind of sound quality when they use their NEW Sony headphones with Sony line of Xperia phone or Walkman players.

A Smart Toothbrush Just Won Intel's Maker-Themed Reality Show

Grush

Intel’s Button-Sized Curie Module

Intel had made attempts to make inventors cool last month and the company had brought tinkering into prime time with the presentation of America’s Greatest Makers, a reality TV competition on TBS with 24 teams of inventors that competed for a prize of $1 million. Intel’s involvement meant two things. For starters, CEO Brian Krzanich had been one of the main panel lists.

To also qualify for the competition, all of these projects needed to incorporate the button-sized Curie module of Intel that had been designed to power the coming wave of connected objects. Intel had developed the button sized module as a means of low-power base for consumers as well as industrial wearable, debuting it first at the CES in January. After seven weeks, the 24 teams had been shaped down to five with the season drawing to a close recently.

The winner was Grush, a three-person team whose smart toothbrush seemed to work with a mobile game in helping children to brush their teeth much more thoroughly than they would normally do. It is a kind of product which would be right at home at Intel’s futuristic CES booth. Grush’s smart toothbrush does not seem to be a completely novel idea. Besides this there have been smart utensils such as a vibrating fork while toothbrush giant Oral-B has been making Bluetooth brushes for years.

Built-in Sensors

However, Grush had been interested in just not on the account of how it functioned but also who it was intended for. Utilising built-in sensors, the toothbrush can inform you how you are holding it and hence what areas of the mouth one may or may not be reaching. With the Curie module’s on-board Bluetooth radio, the brush tends to send the data to an accompanying app which then turns the whole action of brushing into a game wherein you do not win till you hit all tough-to-reach areas in the mouth.

Paediatric dentist Anubha Sacheti, futurist Ethan Schnur and inventor Yongjing Wang are said to be the brainchild of the product. Wang, who’s PhD in physics, has made him the most engineering literate out of the three. As parents and in the case of Sacheti, dentists, they started with the issue that several people tend to have bad teeth and people seem to learn bad habits early, not because kids dislike brushing their teeth to start with.

Celebration Mode to Maker’s Mode

Grushs’ team had filmed the season finale in March which means that the victory had been kept a secret for around two months now. Schnur had also commented that they needed to jump from celebration mode back to maker’s mode. Thereafter the company needed to put out a product or at least get one ready for public demos. The next time in fact it is said that Grush would be at CES, where the team expect to join CEO Brian Krzanich during his annual Las Vegas keynote, on the stage. If it tends to go as planned, they would then be getting their hands-on with the toothbrush.

Google and Levi’s Team Up on a Smart Jacket

Smart Jacket

Project Jacquard – Connect Smart Jacket for Urban Cyclists

At the I/O Conference of Google recently, Google’s Advanced Technology and Project – ATAP research unit provided an update on interactive textile projected which had been unveiled last year, Project Jacquard. Ivan Poupyrey of ATAP had declared that the company had been working together with iconic clothing company, Levi’s in the launch of a `connected’ smart jacket intended for urban cyclist which would enable the wearer to do things such as controlling the music, answer calls, access navigation and much more, which can be performed on tapping and swiping on the sleeve of the jacket.

The partnership of Google with Levi’s was first announced last year though the two companies had not revealed how the clothing maker would have implemented the technology of Project Jacquard. The project comprises of weaving multi-touch sensors into clothes to make the new wearable computing device. The company clarified that the notion with the latest Commuter jacket of Levi’s is to make something which would be fashionable to wear while at the same time also tend to represent a useful implementation of the technology. Presently, cyclists tend to have issues with their phone while traveling on busy roads, which could be risky.

Use Gestures to Control Different Functions

With Levi’s Commuter jacket they will be able to simply touch their jacket’s cuff, utilising gestures in controlling the different functions which would otherwise need to pull out the phone to complete the task. The jacket would be part of the collection of clothing of Levi’s Commuter that is mainly focused on urban dwellers who tend to ride bikes in navigating through the city.

Embedded in the sleeve of the jacket is a Jacquard tag which makes these functions possible and which can be pulled out and charged through USB. The tag tends to connect with the LED, battery, haptic as well as the woven sensor in the garment. The connection points for the tech smartly taking advantage of the jacket’s button-hole to look less obtrusive. Besides this, the platform comprises of a mobile application which seems to connect the smart clothes to the cloud where the consumers can control the apps which work, with the connected garment.

Interoperate with Third Party Services

In addition to this, the company has stressed that one can utilise Levi’s jacket like any other form of clothing, like squeeze it up, throw it in the wash etc. Poupyrey has commented that `there is a unique challenge in creating a smart clothes platform, fashion and technology need to work as one but there is inherent tension between the two. Technology is fragile, garments are not’. Moreover on controlling native phone functions like calls, Google Play Music and Google Maps, Google states that the jacket would interoperate with third party services which mean that one will be capable of using the touches in controlling Spotify music, for instance or a connected fitness app like Strava.

APIs would also be made available. A demo had been conducted on stage during the event wherein the company portrayed how the jacket operated. For example, running fingers up and down the cuff tends to control the volume of the music. Compass, another feature can be accessed with a swipe and on doing so, a voice assistant tends to inform the wearer, Levi’s VP of Innovation Paul Dillinger, of their next time of meeting and how long it would take to arrive.

WWDC 2016 - What to Expect from iOS 10 and OS X 10.12

WWDC

Keynote Speech – June 13th – Bill Graham Civic Auditorium

WWSC, the worldwide developers’ conference of Apple which is held annually is near at hand and we can hope to hear more details on the latest software updates for their products, from iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch, right to Mac and Apple TV. Since 1983, Apple had been hosting developer conference and 2016 tends to be its 27th event. Though several contemplate it as a launchpad for annual software upgrades, past devices inclusive of iPhone 4, Mac Pro and Power Mac had been also been launched there.

Apple had used the keynote, last year to reveal Apple Music, its radio as well as streaming service with some help from stars, Drake and The Weeknd. The keynote speech is said to take place on Monday 13th June at 10am PDT, in the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium, San Francisco. Last year, the venue had revealed iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus and iPad Pro to the world.

Moreover, events on Tuesday and Wednesday would be held at Moscone West, the neighbouring convention centre that had hosted WWDC in recent years. About 5,000 developers is said to be in attendance for the event.

iOS 10

To watch the live presentation, users could tune in to Apple’s website or through the WWDCiOS app. The Telegraph would be doing live blogging, all through, covering the announcement regarding iOS, OS X, watchOS and tvOS. The major part of the two hour or so performance seems to be devoted to the new version of iOS, the software of Apple for iPhone and iPad.

iOS 9 had been introduced last year and hence it is expected that iOS 10 would also make an appearance which would probably be accompanied by Craig Federighi, senior vice president of software engineering. Beta version of the software is said to be opened up to developers in June before being rolled out to the general public in autumn when the iPhone 7 would be released.

There have been strangely scarce details regarding the iOS 10, this year though reports indicate digital assistant Siri could be updated to manage voicemails, transcribing them to read without having to ring your inbox and select the message one would want to listen. iOS 10 could be the first time a HomeKit is completely understood and connected home framework of Apple was first release as a part of iOS 8.

OS X 10.12

In recent years, with last year’s offering El Capitan resulting on from Yosemite and Mavericks, Apple had named its Mac software updates after Californian landmarks. While the name of OS X 10.12 tends to be veiled in secret, there seems to be an opportunity where Apple could rebrand the software completely as macOS in position with the other lines. One of the rumours circulating is the possible integration of Siri in OS X enabling you to perform for the first time, voice searches through the laptop or desktop.

The company has apparently been testing varieties of OS X comprising of Siri for the past four years and the new software will have a Siri microphone icon in the Menu bar. This when clicked would introduce a dark background with coloured waves just as it tends to appear across iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch. Inserting Siri in the infrastructure of Mac seems reasonable.

Apple is very clear regarding how it foresees its numerous functioning together cross-platforms and its Continuity umbrella which had been announced at WWDC 2014, comprises of a range of latest features designed as first push to seamless addition between the systems.
