Google X and the Science of Radical Creativity

Google X

Google X is empowering invention with bust of radical creativity

Google parent company Alphabet has a very special wing which is working on developing highly influential and quite unbelievable technology, product or service for all. This special wing is called Google X wing which brings together highly powerful minds in varied fields that have a common shared goal of developing solutions to the crucial problems plaguing modern society. In simple words this wing is a kind of Moonshot Factory whose solutions are nothing less than the science fiction.

What makes Google X so different from others?

Google X will comes as simply one such company where members are encourages to perform regular investigation in the absurd ideas which are permitted anywhere in the world. In this case ‘absurd ideas’ are limited to the science fiction and their task is to investigate whether it is possible to implement in modern day and how feasible will it be. Over the this wing has quietly investigation space elevators and cold fusion which are remarkable absurd ideas in reality but so much in the field of science fiction.

This Moonshot factory has tried and even abandoned wide range of projects over the years which ranges from the developing hoverboards with magnetic levitation technology to extremely cheap fuel from the sea weed. It has met with varied degree of success in different projects and one of its most notable and widely reported projects is self-driving cars. Apart from it it had made drones which can deliver aerodynamic packages and even designed such contact lenses which can measure glucose level from the diabetic person’s tears.

Google X is the need of the hour

The ideas followed or made into by Google X might appear to be farfetched or too random to show any worth to usual reader. But the engineers and brightest minds at this Moonshot factory adhere to a very simple and potent three part formula. At the very beginning they address a huge problem, secondly they do it by offering a radical solution and thirdly this is achieved by employing a feasible technology.
It is worth noting that Google has created the Google X wing to solve its own problems as there is already massive workforce to deal with it. Rather the Google X division is literary made with the aim of creating such companied which helps in changing the world we live in and become the next age- Google. This wing considers more than 100 such absurd ideas every year which encompasses varied areas like artificial intelligence, clean energy and much more.

Innovation powered by secrecy

The Google X wing innovation is powered by the highest level of secrecy. Google doesn’t ever share the allotted budget or the number of employees working in the Google X wing even to the investors. Journalists simply has no clue what’s happening behind the closed doors of the Google X wings but it is worth noting that this Moonshot Factory is led by the finest mind in their respective field who knows what they doing or dealing with.

Google Confirms End of Internet Drone Project

titan
In the past five years internet penetration has boomed all across the globe due to rise in the cost effective technology and equipment. In a bid to empower users with internet connectivity Google has designed a project wherein drones will be used to offer internet. However Google has terminated its ambitious internet drone project named Titan after gradually running it for last three years. Google has specifically designed these drones to beam internet to the users in the remote and rural areas. This project had a number of similarities with its Loon project wherein aim was to bring internet connectivity through hot air balloons.

Technical difficulties cited as the reason

Google cited two major reasons for pulling the plugs from its drones program. The droned used in the Titan in order to provide internet were solar powered devices and it has run into a wide variety of technical difficulties which seriously limited the potential of the Titan. Another reason was to bring necessary funding to enlarge scope and technological expertise for the success of the Titan. Google finally confirmed just a few days ago that it has officially shut down the Titan program in the early 2016 which came as surprise for most of the technology experts but its demise was not mourned to a great extent.

The quick history of the Titan Program

Google X division was responsible for the Titan Program and it was brought this division’s control during 2015. This division performed the exploration of the high altitude areas with unmanned aerial vehicles in order to provide the internet access within few weeks of getting Titan at hand. Over the a year of research has shown that the economics related to the use of drones and technical feasibility associated with Project Titan was still high and it offers the best solution at the given time to connect remote and rural areas in the simplest fashion.

The rise and fall of Titan

In the beginning of the 2014 Titan Aerospace was acquired by Google to develop drones and necessary technology for providing internet through it. This was done specifically to counter the attempts from Facebook to provide internet through unmanned aerial vehicles. During the early days Google has famously stated that atmospheric satellites will be right instrument in bringing internet to millions of people round the globe.

These drones will be extremely during disaster relief and it will play a vital solving a number of major problems such as deforestation and other environmental damage. Soon after the test flights in 2015 Titan started facing a large number technical of difficulties along with funding issues which eventually derailed the project within a year.

Google X division has released a statement wherein it officially confirmed the demise of Titan and the reassignment of various staffs to its different part of business which includes Project Loon and Wing. In similar fashion Facebook ambitious attempt at beaming internet from the drones took a backseat when its drones ran into various technical difficulties.

Google Exploring A Way to Search Bodies for Cancer, Heart Disease

Google X life science
US based tech giant Google Inc is exploring with the help of advanced technologies at its disposal to search inside the human body for the early signs of life threatening diseases such as the cancer and heart disease.

Google is working on developing a technology that combines the disease detecting with the use of nanoparticles, which would be sent into the patient’s bloodstream through a swallowed pill an it would emit its finding to a wrist worn sensor.

Google Plunges Into Human Biology With Dynamic Technology

Google is aiming to diagnose cancers, impending heart attacks, stokes as well as other deadly diseases before they could become fatal and beyond treatment. Google is working on the idea of identifying the slight changes in the human biochemistry, which could act as an early warning system. This ambitious work is at its nuptial stage.

It should be noted that the early diagnosis of deadly disease is the key to treating disease in the modern healthcare. Many cancers such as pancreatic could only be detected after they had become untreatable or fatal. There is also a marked differed between the healthy and cancerous tissues. Google ambition is to constantly monitor the blood for extracting and identifying the unique traces of cancer. In turn, this would allow the early diagnosis before any physical symptoms could even appear.

Google X: A Health Research Unit

Google has assembled a Life Sciences team at the special project Google X Lab which are experimenting with the nanoparticles. These nanoparticles would be transmitted in the human bloodstream to hunt for the signs of the medical trouble there report its finding to the sensors, which would be worn by the people. This project is conducted by the Google’s research unit known as Google X, which is dedicated to investigating potentially revolutionary innovations.

This project is also seen as the Google’s latest shift into the medical sector. Earlier it has worked on creating glucose measuring contact lenses for diabetic patients. It has also acquired a start-up, which has developed an innovative spoon to counteract the tremors caused by the Parkinson’s disease.

The Use Of Nanoparticles

Nanoparticles are expected to have a unique magnetic quality, which would allow them to drawn to the worn devices and counted as well using a non-invasive detection method such as light or radio waves. Google is ultimately going to create a wristband, which could take these readings from the nanoparticles via the light and radio waves, one or more times within 24 hours.

Google even asserts that if its innovative technology gets successful then it could help physicians in detecting the diseases before their deadly onset in the human body.

Google is even planning to license its technology to the companies who are interested in using it specifically for the medically approved diagnostics.

Google had bought stakes in an anti-ageing research company Calico in order to address health and ageing problems by harnessing the advanced technologies.

Google Begins Quantum Computing Research Project in Collaboration With NASA and USRA

Google Research
Google, web search giant now is aim to crack the code of the next level in computer evolution. When compared to traditional computers, the quantum computers are considered as the Holy Grail of computing.

This will remove all the errors from the current traditional computing systems. According to Google Inc, the company will be joined by a research team headed by John Martinis (Physicist from University of California Santa Barbara), which will be working on building the superconducting electronics based new quantum information processors. This Quantum Artificial Intelligence Lab is partnership between NASA, USRA and Google. The aim of the lab is to study the application of quantum optimization in relation with the artificial intelligence.

The Quantum AI team will be able to test and implement the new designs that have been developed for quantum optimization and inference processor with an integrated hardware group. These designs are based on the theoretical insights and learning’s inspired from the D-Wave quantum annealing architecture.

John Martinis who is professor at University of California, Santa Barbara, is one of the most prominent known names in the researchers who have given immense contribution towards the researchers in the field of Artificial Intelligence. Google is working on quantum chips as they have the vision that one day these chips will make the machines perform like humans.

The designed Chips that will be able to work at sub-atomic levels in such a way; that they will be able to make the existing processors even faster.

As per the experts, the quantum bit will be having two different states at the same time. They will be able to improve the power and speed of computing today. Standard computer deals with binary data which is expressed normally in zero and ones. However the quantum computing will be encoding the data by using the sub-atomic particle behaviour.

Google has become focused on artificial intelligence past couple of years and also working on self driving cars projects and robots projects. Google has acquired artificial intelligence company DeepMind Technologies Ltd in January 2014. Even though the DeepMind Technologies Ltd Company has unable to produce any commercial product, they have been paid £242 million ($399 million) for their proficiency in the field of Artificial Intelligence.

This company has the aim of making computers think like humans. According to another founder in the company, Shane Leg, had warned that the artificial intelligence is the number one risk in the current century and might even lead to the extinction of the human race. In a recent interview he stated that one day human race has to extinct and the artificial intelligence will be the most prominent contributor towards this.

Google has ensured that an ethics board is overseeing all the processes under Artificial Intelligence.

Google X Developed Contact Lens That Helps Diabetics

Google Contact lens

Google Contact lens
Google has developed in his research laboratory Google X an electronic contact lens that could help diabetic patients. It regularly measures the blood sugar level of the tear fluid and can thus warn of high or low blood sugar levels.

With an electronic contact lens Google wants to make the daily life of diabetes patients easier because the contact lens that they wear can monitor every second, which measure blood glucose levels in the tear fluid.

So patients no need to prick their finger to detect a drop of blood their blood sugar levels. This is also the problem encountered by many diabetic patients to measure their blood sugar levels too rarely. Tiny sensors and chips and an antenna are installed between two layers of a soft contact lens, which will allow extremely precise measurements.

Google has built several prototypes, including those measure blood sugar levels per second evenly. Currently, they are experimenting with integrated LEDs as an early warning. It is still developing at a very early stage, but they were conducted several clinical trials earlier, under which the prototypes were improved.

It can be released once the clinical trials were completed but will still take some time. Currently, Google is in talks to with the U.S. health supervision FDA. Google wants to collaborate in the further development with partners who have experience in bringing such products to market. The partners will develop among other apps, of which the measurements are provided to the winner and his doctor.
