Digg finally arrives on Android

Digg, the RSS reader of Betaworks, has announced the launch of its Android application. Of course, it allows you to enjoy the "Top Stories” articles handpicked, as well as the aggregator. However, some important features still missing as display only unread content and synchronization in the background. Following the announcement of the closure of Google Reader, Digg decided to embark on the adventure of RSS aggregators. Indeed, the company was proposing a community site or the users voted for they considered relevant or the useful content. The most interesting and or popular were then highlighted. Digg request user feedback but do not necessarily take into account. But before diving Digg organized several surveys to collect the opinions of Internet users, the goal was to offer a product that meets their expectations. But in practice, there is sometimes a gap: while the direct sharing by email and research streams were in high demand, they are not yet available in Digg Reader as currently proposed.

However, the company does not remain inactive and just put online a first version of its highly anticipated Android app too, obviously. Anyway, after two months of waiting, it is now available, but it sorely lacks some basic features. It is obviously possible to navigate through the “Top Stories” and in your various RSS feeds, save (via Pocket, Instapaper and Readability) and share via social networks. In addition, you can sort, add and delete files and streams. By cons, this first version do not displays your unread content, which is unfortunate. Note that when the closure of Google Reader in early July, the site was in the same situation, but this feature is quickly arriving later, hope it will be the same here. It is not possible to change the screen orientation (portrait by default), the font size and activate the update stream in the background. This should, however, make an appearance before the announcement of the Premium model, long planned.

Firefox Marketplace, Mozilla introduces Firefox App Store for OS

Mozilla Firefox Marketplace particularly the App Store for Firefox OS presents users with interesting apps like a social network. The App Store for Firefox OS contains elements that turn it into a social network. The first Smartphones with Firefox OS are already available in market, but on an App Store users will have to wait. Mozilla Firefox is working busily on Marketplace. A current prototype includes features such as a social network and wants to recommend apps that should be of interest to the users. In a long entry in the blog of the Mozilla UX designer Liu told how he has integrated the functions of social feeds in the App Store of Firefox OS along with the rest of the team Firefox Marketplace.

In their analysis, the users of other mobile operating systems often face the problem that they find interesting or subject to an application being sought. Here, the feed of the Mozilla Marketplace try to give remedy to the situation and show the individual users for them interesting apps and updates to their applications. To express your interest in such an app; In a search result or a category by clicking a heart icon - roughly equivalent to the "Like" on Facebook or "followers” status on Twitter. You will receive not only information on new versions of the apps highlighted, but also pointed to similar content. In addition, to give the feeling of social network community hubs, app developers have added pictures and statistics such as number of downloads. A replacement for Facebook, Twitter other social hubs will not and cannot be Firefox Marketplace , but if the social elements lead to better results in the App Store , it should also hold in the iTunes App Store and Google Play collection.

The History Of The Computer

Computers are such a major part of our daily lives, that for most of us, we largely take their existence for granted.  Yet the complex machines that we use today once had very humble beginnings, with the advancement in computer technology escalating in the last 50 years or so.  Here's how the computer's story all began.
The very beginnings
The history of computers can be traced back to the middle 1800s, designed by Charles Babbage.  Although these computers looked nothing like what we would imagine computers to look like today, the concepts of data inputting and outputting, separating storage from processing and the logical structure of computers are very similar to that of today.
Early 1900s
Electro-mechanical computers were built in the 1930s.  They were either analogue or digital. Many of today's concepts in computing originated from these early electro-mechanical machines.  The first program-controlled digital computer was built around this time, which used floating-point numbers in computations.
The first electronic computers came about during WWII.  They were used to decrypt German codes.  The first named one was called Colossus.  Another important computer at this time was called The Baby, which was the first of its type to use an early form of random access memory (RAM) using a cathode-ray tube.
The 1950s saw a change in the way that computers were used.  Earlier, they had served scientific, mathematical and defence functions.  But, now, they were being used for business purposes, such as accounting and banking functions.  The first mass-produced computer was UNIVAC.
Another major development in computing took place in the mid 1950s, and this was the development of transistor computers.  Transistors replaced vacuum tubes.  The end result was smaller computers.
In the 1960s and 70s, the microchip took over computer technology, leading to the microprocesor.  Computers became even smaller.
The first personal computers came about in the early 1970s.  The Commodore PET was one such notable early PC.
The advent of portable computers came into existence in the 1980s.  They were by no means portable in the sense we would expect today, as some of them were large and cumbersome to carry!  The first marketed 'laptop' was the Gavilan SC in 1983.  Laptop technology advanced quickly thereafter.
The new century has seen some of the most exciting developments in computer history.  The introduction of Smartphones has changed the way we use computers today, with a basic phone capable of performing most of the functions that a computer can do.
The development of netbook computers has also catapulted computer technology to the fore, with many having their own in-built WiFi capabilities.
The future
So what can we expect from computers of the future?  Will they develop and change as rapidly as they have done in the last few decades?  Leading experts believe that future computers will be able to process data much faster than today.  Computers will be able to handle ever-increasing complex problems.
Some experts even go as far as to say that computers of the future will be invisible, where computers are actually integrated into everything around us, even the clothing you wear.
Whatever we can expect, the likelihood is that the development will be exciting.

Nintendo 2DS is nothing but 3DS without 3D

Nintendo comes with a new, cheaper version of the Nintendo 3DS that is the 2DS. This is technically almost the same as the 3DS, but has no 3D screen. In addition, the device is now a solid and not foldable, as was the case so far with all DS models. In this 2DS you can play all DS games and 3DS games, but the latter without 3D effects. Nintendo hopes that the low price many consumers will persuade a 2DS to purchase during the upcoming holidays. To keep the price as low as possible the 2DS comes equipped with a big screen instead of two separate monitors. However, by the housing around and across the screen seem still it is of two separate monitors. How the Nintendo 2DS will be prices in Europe is not yet decided. But in the United States the price $ 129, that is $ 40 less than the 3DS. The new console is available in the colors red and blue from October.

Windows 9 with Aero Interface Beta in January

The latest information about Windows 9 come to light, According to Microsoft insiders WZOR Windows 9 will be available in 2014. As already planned final release will be in November, and the beta version launch will be in January and the RTM status will be reached subsequently in mid-year. In terms of features, the appearance will change according to the information available. After all, Microsoft is working to return the Aero interface of Windows 7, which should, however, be very different from the other version. Even with Windows 10 already seems WZOR to know details: This version of Windows is to bring significantly more changes than Windows 9 and move the operating system further into the cloud. So it could be completely possible via the browser to access all Windows 10 devices. Initial concepts for this are going to be presented on 1 September internally at Microsoft.

So Windows 9 could reappear as a pure desktop operating system since Windows Phone to run on Smartphones and tablets in the future. The Windows desktop would move away again by the touch operation - and belong to tile optics, apps and more surfaces of the past. Positive side effect is that an overview of Windows Phone, Windows 8 and Windows RT would eases somewhat. Windows Phone was not significantly increase its market share compared to Android and iOS itself from this major upgrade to Version 8. Even worse , it looks at Windows RT: While adopt more and more OEM partners from the slimmed Windows 8, Microsoft had the in-house Surface RT recently reduced by a further 150 Euros to boost sales. The ModernUI design is intended to be either greatly altered or completely replaced. The frustration of the Windows 8 user was finally big enough to bring back seemingly redundant content as the desktop start-up and at least a symbolic start button. Windows Phone also makes more sense than the double solution with Windows 8 and RT as a responsible OS for all touch devices.

Yahoo! attracts more users than Google in the U.S

According to comScore, Yahoo! has doubled the visitors than Google during the month of July 2013 in the United States. A great performance but Tumblr visitors were not added to Yahoo statistics of Yahoo!. Marissa Mayer, a former Google executive and current boss of Yahoo!, may be smiling. His company dominates and Google on his land, with 196.56 million unique visitors in July, against 192.25 million for his rival. It has been over two years that such a shift has not happened, knowing that Yahoo! and Google alternated regularly enough place between 2008 and 2011, before Google dominates the debates to preceding month unchallenged. Performance is real, since the growth of Yahoo! does not incorporate the Tumblr network, bought a few months ago for nearly a billion dollars. The latter is however located in the 28th position, with nearly 38.4 million unique visitors across the Atlantic, before Twitter, Netflix and Pinterest. This especially means that Yahoo! without Tumblr, has attracted more than 87% of 225,360,000 U.S. Internet in August. How? ComScore does not say, but we doubt that between research services, information, electronic mail (Yahoo! Mail), photos (Flickr), etc. Nevertheless, we can ask ourselves how Google managed to be overtaken by Yahoo! when he dominates the search market (67%) and services (Gmail, G+, etc...) are growing. Yahoo! is no longer a major player for a long time in the United States, but it has always been important. It was number one for many years; its supremacy has been troubled by Google. Only Microsoft has tickled time Yahoo! Facebook, for its part remains far behind, and AOL. For Yahoo!, success in attracting investors has always been a difficulty. Financial results and Yahoo! are incomparable against those of Google. The first, just getting over a billion dollars in sales per quarter compared with more than 14 billion for Google is worth mention. This difference is easily explained: one gets to sell advertising heavily, the other not. Google has captured 74% of advertising revenue related to research in 2012, against 6.6% for Yahoo! and 4% for Microsoft. And as projected by eMarketer, the gap in favor of Google in 2013 and is expected to grow in the years to come. Worldwide, Google can even boast of capturing third digital advertising revenue, and even 52% on mobile, far ahead of Facebook, Yahoo! and Microsoft.

Career Opportunities in Welding

Welding is sometimes described as more of an art than a craft because so much of the refinements in techniques are learned over years of experience. The need for skilled welders who can work on products that don't lend themselves to robotic welding continues to grow. For those who are willing to work on a variety of materials in a range of situations, welding continues to be a field of challenges and opportunities.

Researchers developed electronic Skin namely “Eskin”

Scientists at the University of Tokyo has been able to apply sensors on a thin, flexible sheet. The Eskin marked a breakthrough in the development of flexible electrical conductors. Modern Smart phone touch screens are easy to use and powerful, but previously it had one major drawback: they cannot be bent. Blame it on the most commonly used silicon chips. The "electronic skin", the researchers presented the University of Tokyo now, can bend, fold or crumple even - though the labels affixed to their sensors continue to work properly. The scientists succeeded, to a plastic film which is about 1.2 micrometers thick (20 times as thin as the cling film), vapor-touch sensitive circuits. The feather-light film can be attached to any object - even on our skin. The applications are numerous: A film could be used in future as an intelligent patch and constantly monitor the healing process, for example by the sensors measure the blood pressure or pulse. You can also apply to produce or to control a temperature by solar power. And The "Eskin" is of course also possible as an alternative to the commonly used today touch screen and controls on electronic devices. A similar invention comes from California, where scientists developed a film that is fatter compared to Eskin (such as a sheet of paper), but can do more. Already, working pressure sensitive sensors and small OLEDs are in it. If you touch the film, it begins to glow. Currently, it is still as a laboratory product, which is provided by the researcher only in very small quantities. Later, they can be developed at the University of Tokyo Austrian Martin Kaltenbrunner in bulk. And can offer such films as cheap as possible when mass production is started.

Bluetooth Speaker "Bose SoundLink Mini"

The segment of small Bluetooth speaker has flourished since the release of the Jawbone Jambox that somehow defined this category. The famous speaker manufacturer and Bose audio players do not make a mistake and he has released his own version with the SoundLink Mini. The SoundLink Mini is barely larger than the Jambox and its dimensions are quite reasonable for a small Bluetooth speaker. The product forms a parallelepiped with rounded edges 20 cm long and a little less than 6 inches wide and a little over 5 inches tall. The first thing that strikes you when you take the speaker in hand is its weight. We do not expect such a heavy object and in fact, the SoundLink Mini reached almost 700 grams on the scale, more than twice as much as its competitors. That's a lot and we are surprised the first time by the weight of the product. About build quality, it should be noted that the manufacturer has done a great job. Compact, its enclosure is built around an aluminum strip that completely surrounds the SoundLink Mini and contributes the perceived quality, its weight and solidity of the whole. The aluminum is thick enough to withstand minor impacts, even if we avoid dropping the speaker too. SoundLink Mini has two perfectly symmetrical faces with, in both cases, form not quite right sides. The base of the enclosure is a little narrower than the top and form gives a slightly retro look to the product. Difficult, in general, to be choosy: The enclosure is extremely well finished and very elegant. Bose has focused on control over all of its enclosure.

A block in a darker gray distinguishes between the space allocated to control the name of the speaker is there, and six buttons. From left to right and has an ON / OFF button, which mutes, two buttons for volume control and finally two buttons to select the operating mode of the SoundLink Mini. The buttons are not aluminum, but in a soft and gray rubber. This provides a continuous strip of rubber and no spaces: one imagines that the enclosure will withstand a few drops of rain, even if it is not intended to be wet. These controls are fully assembled; they suffer no game and definitely participate in this general feeling of solidity. The two volume buttons stand out in all, which is very convenient for the spot. The other four, grouped both sides are distinguished by a line cut into the rubber so that you can completely manipulate the SoundLink Mini in total darkness. The black will not really be absolute if you use the speaker, since Bose has incorporated some of the LED device. Very discreet, these lights are first to know that the speaker is on: above the source (Bluetooth or auxiliary), a white LED appears continuously both to show the selected source and to indicate that the chamber works. The Bluetooth turns blue when the enclosure is configured to accept new connections.

Above the mute button, a white LED will flash when the function is active. Finally, a light shaped battery lights at startup above the ON / OFF button on the Sound Link Mini. It takes three different colors depending on the battery status from green to red when it is time to load and it can also be viewed at any time by pressing the ignition button pressed. All is quiet and you can greet Bose effort to minimize the number of lights. The volume change for example is represented by a flashing LED associated with the source. The Mini also operates the SoundLink speaker to communicate with the user: there is thus a sound when the enclosure is connected to a Bluetooth source and another when it is (un) plugged in for recharging. About recharging the manufacturer provides a charger that can be plugged into the side, but a charging cradle on which we simply ask the speaker.

This stand is a great idea and it is very pleasant in everyday life, even if it is designed with plastic poor quality and it is very light. It is far from the level of production of the Mini SoundLink itself, but this support has the merit to exist and it has done its job. On the right side of the accessory, two inputs can both charge the SoundLink Mini comes without support, but also connect to any Bluetooth device with a mini-jack input. Under his product, Bose arranged a wide rubber pad which serves both to protect the aluminum to keep the speaker in place and reduce vibration. A key point, as we shall see in the next section. The SoundLink Mini also has at this point the connector to the charging stand and a micro-USB connector used for any updates. Again, no cable is provided. The SoundLink Mini may well be very well built and quite strong, you will want to protect a minimum if you plan to use in extreme conditions. Bose has thought of everything and enjoy features that are reminiscent of the bumpers for iPhone 4 and 4S. Three colors are available (green, blue and orange) and they cost € 25 each time.

Samsung detailed more about its V-NAND and New SSD

Samsung recently unveiled memory chips NAND Flash V-operator a new architecture supposed to improve reliability and performance. At the same time, the manufacturer the opportunity to present a SSD of 960 GB, which is not unlike what has Crucial M500 series with her. A few days ago, Samsung showed that the mass production of memory chips NAND-Flash V (Vertical NAND), had begun. Unlike the conventional NAND using a 2D structure; the V-NAND is gaining height and it passes relief stacking layers. Up to 24 for the time the Samsung said. As stated in the presentation of the Flash Memory Summit, Samsung believes that the reduction of fine engraving comes to its limits. Besides the possibility to switch to alternatives such as TLC NAND and three bits per cell (rather than two), as explained in that other document, you must solve the problem of interference that are increasingly important as the transistor size is reduced. The structure type Floating Gate MOSFET (FGMOS) is set aside for the passage Charge Trap Flash (CTF) that is more reliable and better density. The whole is then stacked to provide chips that are still operating the same fine engraving, but are also able to hold more data.

Samsung announces and mentioned that it already produce faster SSDs consume less and less equivalent operating chip storage capacity. But the company is also focusing on to a strong impact of the arrival of this technology in the market and listing and expects an explosion of its orders on the business market and the general public in 2020. Unfortunately, the surprise and the announcement effect turn this time a little short, without details. Of course, we know they operate a S-ATA 6Gb / s, but the rates and IOPS are not specified. The manufacturer just announced that "960 GB version has the highest level of performance, with over 20% more sequential reading and writing through the use of 64 die of 3D V-MLC NAND, each with a storage capacity of 128 GB ". Finally, we just know that the SSD NAND-V are given for 35,000 erase cycles, which is particularly high because is generally between 3000 and 5000 cycles with conventional MLC chips. Now we have to wait until the first returns of independent tests to find out what it is exactly V-chip NAND and SSD exploiters. Samsung says that the production of these began at the beginning of the forthcoming year, so we will soon have more information.

Chrome 29 arrives with omnibox

Google has just put online version of Chrome 29 browser. As expected, it brings improvements of the Omnibox side, corrects not less than 25 security vulnerabilities while improving stability and performance. For its part, the OS X version finally takes advantage of the notification center. A little over a month after Chrome 28, Google continues its stride and has published the 29th version of its permanent home browser. As a reminder, it now operates its own rendering engine Blink, the Mountain View Company has decided to set aside Webkit to chart its own course. This version does not bring big surprises and resumes the main novelty announced with Chrome 29 beta. Thus, the Omnibox, the address bar that allows you to search, offers suggestions that want to be more relevant and which are based on the timing of your visit.

Users of Chrome for OS X can now enjoy the notification center that is available on Windows since the previous version of Chrome. The wait will finally not so very long. This is not the only novelty and Google announced that it is now possible to restore the profile to its original state. You must go to settings, display the advanced settings and click the "Reset Browser Settings" button. This will remove the extensions and themes, delete cookies, temporary as well as Tabs data, etc. As a advantage the list of your favorite and the saved passwords are not affected by this reset. As always, the overall performances have been revised upwards. In addition, no less than 25 security vulnerabilities have been corrected, with awards ranging from $ 500 to $ 1337 for those who discovered them.

Is The Government Reading Your Tweets?

The US Government is facing tough questions and mounting pressure over its surveillance programs as a result of information revealed by Edward Snowden. Leaders in the National Security Agency have endured grilling from Congress and increased scrutiny from journalists due to recent revelations that the phone and Internet activity of millions of Americans has been viewed by the government agency. But does the added scrutiny mean that the NSA pulling back on how much data it gathers on social media users? According to Twitter, the answer is a definitive “No.”

Big Jump In Information Requests

In Twitter’s transparency report it appears that the number of government requests in connection with criminal cases is rising. A total of 1,157 information requests by governments worldwide were made in the first six months of 2013. That is an increase from 1,009 requests from the previous six month period and 849 requests in the six months before that. In 2013, the United States lead the pack in amount of requests by far with 902. Japan came in second place with just 82.
Since this is the first transparency report to be released since the leaks of NSA documents, Twitter recognized its significance. "An important conversation has begun about the extent to which companies should be allowed to publish information regarding national security requests," Twitter said in a blog post on Wednesday. "We have joined forces with industry peers and civil liberty groups to insist that the United States government allow for increased transparency into these secret orders."

Information Removal Requests

Federal institutions worldwide aren’t just contacting Twitter in order to collect IP addresses and other personal information. Twitter has also received requests from governments to remove content from their site. In the first half of 2012, Twitter handled only six removal requests. In first half of 2013, however, that number shot up to 60. Most of these requests were designed to remove libelous tweets and hate speech. Brazil sent in the most content removal requests with 39. While the US government requested that two tweets be removed, Twitter didn’t comply with either one.
"Over the last six months, we have gone from withholding content in two countries to withholding content (ranging from hate speech to defamation) in seven countries," said Jeremy Kessel.
Twitter says that all users affected by government requests are notified unless prohibited by law.

The Future

It has long been known that the police and other government organizations monitor Twitter for dangerous or threatening tweets. More than a few people have added an entry to their arrest records because they tweeted something violent or threatened another person. But these revelations by Twitter show that the government is interested in more personal information, such as your IP Address (which can reveal the geographic location of someone making a tweet.) Will the US government cave into public pressure and leave Tweeters alone now that surveillance programs are in the hot seat? We may have to wait until Twitter’s next transparency report (due to be released early next year) until we get an answer.

Waze Reports integrated into Google Maps

Waze was bought by Google ht two months ago, Waze Community GPS will allow in Google Maps to improve, at least on mobile. The first Advanced announced by Google Maps integration into the incidents of Waze community reports. The latter is however not the only one giving, since technology from Maps are also available to "wazers" said the Web giant. In recent years, the Waze app is available on iOS and Android, has attracted tens of millions of users. The Wazer’s statement during driving, allow the whole community to enjoy their statements in real-time accidents, traffic jams, police presence, radar, work stations, etc. Its acquisition two months ago by Google, for nearly a billion dollars, was not a surprise. In June, when formalizing the acquisition of Waze, Google did not hide his desire to improve Maps quickly. Yesterday, Google has confirmed this philosophy perfectly, announcing further concrete improvements on both sides. On Maps mobile users benefiting by getting reports from other Waze users about the incident reports in real time Waze users. This includes accidents also the work and road closures. Waze community can in turn benefit from the Google search, complementing already services including Foursquare and Yelp. The Waze map editor, which allows correcting some errors, also now it has Street View technology and satellite imagery from Google. Finally, note that the Federal Trade Commission, the government agency responsible for competition in particular to investigate the acquisition of Waze by Google. I must say that Maps is already one of the most important mobile applications in the world, crushing all competitors. And on the Web, its dominance is equally impressive. The acquisition of Waze can be interpreted as a strengthening of a dominant position. In the worst case scenario, it could go up to the cancellation of the acquisition of Waze. However, Google seems sure of himself in terms of comparisons between Maps and Waze.

Sony Xperia Z Ultra

Sony Xperia Z with 6.44 inch Ultra has an enormous Full HD screen. The Sony Xperia Z Ultra has a 6.44-inch full HD screen (1920x1080 pixels, 342 ppi) and is dust and water proof according to the norms IP55/IP57. So it not only looks similar to the Xperia Z. The Z Ultra is available in black and white. Sony's XL Smartphone is extremely large but also impressively thin of about 6.5 mm. The clear-edged design is very classy. Shade of this particular display affects the black model as a solid glass plate. The look is reminiscent of the Xperia Z, but in this format (17.9 x 9.2 inches), it is simply impressive. Even if it is only nine millimeters shorter than about Samsung's seven-inch tablet Galaxy Tab 3. The sleek and slim design ensures that the Z Ultra can still use it as a phone. This XXL Phone also the new Snapdragon processor by Qualcomm 800, clocked at up to 2.3 GHz. At least at first benchmark tests outdated processor all previous Smartphone processors significantly and it is twice as fast as the Galaxy S4 Snapdragon 600 processor with 3D graphics performance is about 50 percent faster than the S4. The RAM is lush two gigabytes. The internal memory is 16 gigabytes via microSD card but can be expanded up to 64 GB. Thanks to a generous 3,000 mAh battery, the Smartphone will still last long. In practice, however, the test battery was under intensive use similar fast running out as with other Smartphones. Sony promises brilliant colors for the "Triluminos” screen with OptiContrast technology. In the first vision test, confirms this: The screen in HD (1920x1080 pixels, 342 ppi) displays photos in vibrant colors that will not fade even when viewed from the side. He still acts as a whit more brilliant than its little brother, the Xperia Z. While the rather dark screen of the Galaxy Note and Note 2 is virtually impossible to read outdoors, working in the Ultra Z in sunlight by turning up the brightness to maximum barely possible. An innovation that has so far not a competitor: With any luck, you can use their old pencil as screen pen for writing and drawing. The camera uses an Exmor sensor with eight megapixel HDR function for photos and video. The first test photos showed decent image quality, but does not reach the level of 13-megapixel camera in the smaller Xperia Smartphones V and Z. In addition, the default automatic exposure yielded quite convoluted results. A quick start mode is supposed to ensure that you get off the sleep mode in less than a second, the first picture in the box. Design, processing speed and working are convincing. With the Sony Xperia Z Ultra delivers the most compelling current mobile phone giant over six inch diagonal display. The phablet bridges the gap between tablet and super phone - and can be used as a phone or tablet either.

U.S. scientists claim world's most accurate clock

Researchers build the most accurate clock in the world. This atomic clock varies from less than one second in 13.8 billion years, the estimated age of the Universe. American physicists announced Thursday the world's most accurate atomic clock experimental able to vary from less than one second in 13.8 billion years. This clock works with ytterbium atoms, a rare earth element and lasers to a regular beat of ten times higher than the best existing atomic clocks. Compared to a quartz watch, the new clock is ten billion times more accurate. This breakthrough in physics has important potential implications not only for the precision in the measurement of universal time but also GPS and a set of sensors of different forces such as gravity, magnetic field and temperature etc. Andrew Ludlow, a physicist at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and one of the main co-authors of this work appeared in the journal Science. "This is an important step in the development of atomic clocks for the next generation currently under development in the world," he says. Like all clocks, atomic clocks keep time measurement based on the duration of a second corresponding to a physical phenomenon that occurs often. While mechanical clocks use the motion of a pendulum to keep time, atomic clocks are based on the ever-constant frequency of light needed to excite an atom of cesium, the current international reference. The last born of atomic clocks based on some 10,000 ytterbium atoms cooled slightly above absolute zero. These atoms are trapped in wells formed optical laser beam. Another laser "bat" 518.000 billion times per second creating a transition between two energy levels in the atoms that provides vibration even greater regularity than a cesium atom and could lead to a new international definition the second time and therefore universal.

Discovered problems in Linux kernel connections to USB devices

Because of a faulty coordination between the hardware and the USB stack in the energy management of the Linux kernel connections to USB devices are frequently interrupted. So far, the kernel developers have looked to blame the device manufacturers. The kernel hacker Sarah Sharp has discovered a serious bug in the Linux kernel. Thus, a faulty coordination between USB stack and equipment when leaving the sleep mode is responsible for the connection to USB devices are abruptly cut off when auto-suspend is enabled. A patch is in the works. The problem of indiscriminate terminations of connections to USB devices is there and other kernel hackers known for years, writes Sharp. However, they have "cheap, crappy and broken" to blame searched devices, so the manufacturers. The blacklists created for this purpose by the kernel developers have become too big someday. The white lists created later by the individual distributions were insufficiently maintained, and ultimately costly. Now, according to Sharp; it is turned out , that the devices were not always responsible for the disruption. According to USB specifications of roothub must send at least 20 milliseconds, the signal to wake up a device (TDRSMDN). Then the status of a device is placed in the hub to Active. Have access to the Linux kernel and software on a device that has yet to be made a break of 10 milliseconds (TRSMRCY). The TRSMRCY value is defined by the USB 2.0 specification, however, neither a read nor a maximum, but a minimum value. Although the xHCI driver of the Linux kernel, the kernel activates immediately hub daemon (khubd), is the changing status of a device, but only after 20 ms free (TDRSMDN). This means that a device can be longer in a Resume mode than that specified in TRSMRCY time. The software then attempts to 10 milliseconds to access the device, although it is still in sleep mode, which in turn can cause the USB device is disconnected or, for example, writes cannot be done. The error relates to devices that connect to the xHCI hub. Such problems with the EHCI hub and the USB stack of the Linux kernel does not exist. After Sharp's first analyzes some USB devices have a TRSMRCY-time of up to 17 milliseconds. 8 percent of the tested devices TRSMRCY-values are about 10 milliseconds. A first patch Sharp has already submitted. But it was still not a "real fix". Immediately they work on a better patch. But you see "light at the end of the tunnel" and that the problems would be resolved with the USB power management in the Linux kernel soon. If everything goes according to plan, the repairs should already be included in the next kernel version 3.11, which should appear early September 2013.

New Nano technology sensors that convert pressure of your fingers into light

Researchers have developed nano-sensors that can convert mechanical pressure (such as pressing a touch screen) into light. This will be used to transmit information faster and with better definition. This new invention is the result of a research team from the Georgia Institute of Technology. Scientists have developed a device to convert the pressure of a finger or a stylus on a touch screen. These lights can then be used to gather information and much greater detail than before. The light produced is immediately captured and analyzed by optical fibers placed in another layer of the device, which then allows to have a resolution of 6300 DPI. Zhong Lin Wang, a professor at Georgia Tech says: "You can write with a stylus and the sensors detect visually what you write in high resolution and with great rapidity. This is a new way of imagining a force that can use different means of detection and can avoid many problems that exist in current pressure sensors. " This technology uses a special faculty of certain objects and materials which also has in the human body, i.e. piezoelectricity. It is the faculty that allows these objects become electrically polarized under the action of mechanical pressure, as the action of a finger on a metal surface. In this case, the piezoelectricity sensor allows components to produce light. Researchers at Georgia Tech expect marketing their new invention by 5-7 years. This could lead to new advances in the field of touch screens, offer new opportunities for users.

Lenovo Windows 8 PCs will get Classic Start Menu Again

Lenovo will continue all Windows 8 PCs with pre-installed a classic start menu again. So that Lenovo will provide its customers with the current Windows service. In addition, the Pokki app store will be preloaded on Lenovo computers. Lenovo has decided to cooperate with Sweet Labs and will deliver Windows 8 PCs preinstalled with the Pokki menu. Purchasers of a Lenovo computer are thus directly obtains a classic start menu with a visible start button, without having to install another tool. With the launch of Windows 8, Microsoft has omitted the classic Windows Start menu. By default the Windows startup screen that attaches itself to full screen on the desktop. In addition, the Windows 8 desktop start button no longer displays. At least that Microsoft wants to make Windows 8.1 back.

Prior to the launch of Windows 8, Microsoft defended the waiver of the start button, but recently admitted indirectly that was a mistake. Recently Asus Chairman Jonney Shih has criticized that Microsoft has made a lot of mistakes with Windows 8. Thus, some of the most popular applications for Windows 8 are those with which the Windows Classic Start menu is activated again. The Pokki menu is available for free for both Windows 8 and Windows 7 and XP. All systems can thus open web apps that the user can refer to the Pokki app store, which is part of the Pokki menu. In it web apps from Facebook, Twitter, Gmail and YouTube bring to the Windows desktop. But games are offered as separate web apps, and now the selection of web apps is quite extensive. Windows 8 systems, again get a start button together with start menu, the tool is ideally pinned on systems running Windows XP and 7 as the first application on the taskbar. Thus Pokki menu is available next to the Windows Start menu.

Canonical plans for Ubuntu Smartphone in early 2014

After the crowd funding campaign for the Ubuntu Edge has failed, Canonical is still plans for Ubuntu Smartphone. And it may expect the release in the first quarter of 2014 to appear a device. Canonical boss Jane Silver has announced an Ubuntu Smartphone for 2014. Despite the failed Campaign for the Ubuntu Edge, Canonical will offer its own Smartphone. The Ubuntu Smartphone mission was in full swing: The Edge campaign has shown that the interest is there. In an interview Silver explained that the proposed Ubuntu Smartphone but do not like the Edge and will have the opportunity to be used on a monitor as a full-fledged Ubuntu PC. The Edge should work with both Ubuntu and Phone with Android, and connected to a monitor, switch to a full desktop version of Ubuntu.

The planned new Smartphone is "not just a phone,  a device that is connected to the monitor," Silver said, stressing at the same time that the combination of mobile and fixed system is the future. More information about features of the proposed Smartphones was not made by Silver. Ubuntu had tried to finance his first Smartphone on the crowd funding platform Indiegogo. Against the targeted 32 million U.S. dollars only 12.8 million was collected and ultimately too little gathered the funding target was clearly missed. Therefore, the edge is not in production, all the supporters get their money back. Apparently, Canonical has until recently been working to implement the project. According to Silver, the company, to find partners for the funding sought.

Here is How Technology Can Transform Your Exhibitions

Smart businesses are now exploring the unending technological means to increase their market share and profitability in equal measure. Did you know that trade shows and exhibitions remain among the most important avenues that your business can use to gain in market share. Well as long as you make use of the trending technologies during such an event, you are likely to have a lasting impact and possibly an upsurge in sales.
Obviously in order to make such an impact you will need to engage an events company. Such a company will be able to set your events in a way that explores and utilizes the latest technology in order to provide the most effective coverage as far as your products or services are concerned.
Prior to the exhibition
Before the exhibition you can choose to include technology in making a strong public presentation of what is coming up. This can be accomplished when you get involved directly or if you let the events company set up this for you. One of the ways may be by using social media in conjunction with other methods like mail shots. These must be able to direct your audience or recipients to an online source such as a website that may be rich in content on what your products and/or services are all about.
Using handouts and freebies
Freebies are a great attraction for most online users. Definitely if you intend to make your online presence as attractive you will find it worthwhile to include handouts and freebies. These handouts may have more information on your products and services that can be contained in printable brochures suitably stored on gadgets like DVDs, flash disks and such like hardware that you directly mail to all those visitors who subscribe to receive such mails from your website.

Sony DSC-QX10 Camera lens for connecting to Smartphones

According to rumors, Sony will soon be two clip-on lenses for Smartphones and tablets front, where it is not just about lenses, but to be a complete cameras. In Sony DSC-QX10 the image sensor and lens stuck and image processor, which is operated via the Smartphone. Sony wants to improve the image quality of Smartphone photos. There is too little space for high-quality camera technology in small devices; the manufacturer installed them in a lens for plugging. However, these are not just lenses, as they are already in large numbers for mobile devices. Instead, stuck in the DSC- QX10 are next to the lens but still an image sensor, image processor, an SD memory card as well as modules for WLAN and NFC. It only lacks a screen and the typical operating a camera.

Instead the program operation of the camera modules using a Smartphone or tablet, the appropriate app for Sony appears not only devices, but allegedly also for Android and iOS. The attachment of the lens with cameras can be done with a help magnet, which might be problematic in the case of plastic housings. The blog sonyalpharumors has published images and first details on the new lens cameras from Sony. According to him, they bear the name DSC- QX10. A similar model should be equipped with a one-inch image sensor, a resolution of 20.2 megapixels and a 3.6x zoom - like the compact camera Cyber-shot DSC-RX100. The camera lens has reportedly over a ten times zoom and a 1/2, 3 inch CMOS sensor with a resolution of 18 megapixels. In all cases, the sensor surface is significantly greater than current Smartphones.

Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3; A monster Smartphone

At 6.3 inches, the Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3 is undoubtedly great. The Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3 is only an inch thick and weighs 201 grams with a screen size of 6.3 inches (16 centimeters). The display of the Galaxy Mega 6.3 shows only 1280x720 pixels - it's still sharp. The Mega is not AMOLED, but an LCD display. This has advantages and disadvantages: the whites are clear, but black always looks dark gray. Watching movies and gaming in Mega bring the giant Wins more fun than on any other phone - especially as the colors look realistic on the high-contrast display and can be adjusted according to taste. Although the screen is not exceptionally bright; but still it is fairly easy to read in the sunlight. Galaxy Mega is equipped with a dual-core chip. With the Qualcomm Snapdragon Smartphone is slightly slower than a quad-core model, in practice, but it was barely noticeable: it is clocked at 1.73 GHz brisk. Daylight shooting of the eight-megapixel camera in the mega can still compete with the iPhone 5. Samsung has equipped the 6.3 mega alongside Android 4.2.2 with its own user interface and other features. In large Smartphones, a large battery fits. While conventional models around 2,000 milliamp hours (mAh) store, he summarizes the Mega 3200 mAh. That is more than enough for a day's work. In addition, the Mega has some handy features on board: the multi-window functions although there is some time, but it's really fun to Mega: This two app windows can simultaneously represent. Become standard in Samsung Smartphones: To control any TV there is an infrared remote control in Mega. The Adapt-sound adjustment, you should try it: This can also be from bad headphones bringing out the best possible sound. The Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3 is huge, but not cumbersome: The sound quality of the phone is good, the pace fast, and the display reacts quickly. The screen is a bit dark and the small built-in memory.

A New Google Glass App Gets Us One Step Closer To Robocop

Google Glass, the high-tech eyewear that gives you an Internet-connected screen in front of your eyeball wherever you go, might have applications that could go beyond seeing if your new date has a criminal record on the fly. It could also help emergency professionals better protect the public. Mutualink, a communications company, is showing off a newly developed app that could help police, firefighters, and paramedics gather information and communicate more effectively.
When first responders arrive at the scene of a crime, fire, medical emergency, or disaster, they can deliver information to headquarters through Google Glass rather than radio. They can also instantly receive vital information like building plans, medical information, and security camera footage. In other words, first responders could have access to virtually anything they want to know; instantly, giving them the power to do their jobs more effectively.
This new possible application of Google Glass probably pleases the devices backers over at Google, who may still be unsure of how the public at large will receive the face-mounted gadget once it’s available to the public next year. Even if the product becomes a flop with tech-heads, it might still get significant use from emergency professionals and other people who could benefit from sending and receiving a constant stream of information. This scenario is essentially what happened to the Segway, which didn’t become the blockbuster product that many people expected, but still found a market with security and tourist companies.

Privacy Concerns

However, not everyone is 100% pleased with the prospect of every police officer having a hyper-advanced communications device and camera strapped to their face at all times.  Many people, already weary after it was revealed that the government collected data about Americans, aren’t thrilled about the prospect of police videotaping every single interaction.
Politicians in high places have also expressed skepticism at the virtues of police carrying around cameras. New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg recently objected to a pilot program to put video cameras on some NYPD officers.

Information Overload

As cool as this sounds, there is a risk of officials simply receiving too much information. When you have to make a split second decision, it doesn’t help to get a video feed, blueprints, and a detailed criminal history report all the same time. While this new app, combined with cutting edge technology, might aid officials in certain situations, nothing will take the place of proper training.

Police officers have always been quick to adopt new technologies when it becomes clear that they could benefit from them, whether it be radio, speed radars, or car-mounted computers. If this new app becomes a hit with law enforcement and emergency professionals, this might be the next high-tech step in the evolution of America’s protectors.

Also the remote control only allows you to turn on or turn off the lights and do not vary in intensity. The price of single one costs about 100 Euros only

Top Tips for Enterprise Mobile App Development

A surge in mobile enterprise app demand prompted a 3.3 per cent growth in the overall applications market in 2012, whilst a staggering 68 per cent of businesses were estimated to develop a mobile app during 2013.
Specialised mobile enterprise apps, which are specially designed to aid business practices like training or sales, can increase efficiency tenfold, whilst significantly improving a company’s ability to service their client. However, before taking the plunge, there are a number of key considerations to be taken into account…
Before starting application development, it’s imperative to determine exactly why it’s being developed in the first place. Only by doing this from the outset will the key objectives be met when the app is deployed. Questions to ask include:
  • What problem are you attempting to solve?
  • What workflow issues do you want to streamline with the new technology?
  • How will your employees use it to become more productive?
  • How will it benefit the client or customer?
You will also need to determine how the application will be managed internally; there’s no point developing a program that takes so much management time, the benefits of having it in the first place are negated.
Put the User Experience First
Ideally, a mobile app should enable the workforce to be more productive, time-efficient, and can even – when thought out correctly – revolutionise their way of working. To ensure the maximum benefits are gleaned from it, the app’s functionality and design should be tailored to accommodate the needs and preferences of its end user.
Consider the Business Context
There are so many popular consumer apps around that it’s difficult not to let them shape and influence applications designed for business use. However, consumer apps with simplistic functionality and slick design often don’t need the capacity to perform what’s required of an enterprise app.
To achieve the key objectives outlined in the planning stage, sometimes business apps need the functionality to run complex features and analysis. Don’t try to over-simplify processes at the expense of getting what you need from your software.
Choosing a Hosting Provider
Selecting a reliable hosting provider for your app is imperative for its future success. Determining the service level agreement will reduce the risk of security or reliability issues tenfold. When selecting a provider, at the very least you should take care to determine:
  • Whether the data centre is staffed 24 hours a day and who by; is there a constant security presence?
  • What is the protocol in the instance that technical difficulties arise?
  • Will the data be encrypted?
  • How often is data backed-up, and where is the back-up data stored?
When designed and implemented properly, enterprise applications can provide businesses with a competitive edge and significantly increase workforce productivity. However, due care should be taken to ensure that they become a help rather than a hindrance to business operations.

Sandisk Wireless Flash Drive!

Retrieve data from a USB stick simply by wireless! Sounds practical isn’t it? SanDisk has introduced the Connect Wireless Flash Drive a model with Wi-Fi. Yes it is a Memory card, instead of fixed memory. The Connect Wireless Flash Drive Sandisk supplies with a 16-gigabyte or 32-gigabyte memory card. The idea looks terrific: Instead of hanging the PC, the Connect Wireless Flash Drive Sandisk move documents, pictures and videos via wireless - even with your cell phone. The Sandisk Connect Wireless Flash Drive is not an ordinary USB stick; instead of a fixed in built memory, it is a plug in device memory of a microSD card type. Sandisk supplies varying amount of memory depending on the model with a 16-gigabyte or 32-gigabyte card. If the stick is connected to the local router, wireless connection record including tablets and Smartphones - that extends the free app Wireless Flash Drive which is available for iOS and Android. Wirelessly you can copy or stream music and photos from your PC or Tablet only - the other way does not work. To put data on the drive, the user must plug into the USB socket on the PC it old-fashioned. By wirelessly streaming movies on mobile phones is amazing. Within one meter of Sandisk sparked with just about two megabytes per second. And within two meters even at 0.1 Mbps.

“Hyperloop” a supersonic speed transport of the future!

Think about the fifth mode of transport now you can travel a distance of 4500 km from New York to Los Angeles in 45 minutes without leaving the ground. The whimsical billionaire Elon Musk had last month announced via his Twitter account. On August 12, he will unveil the details of their proposal for a new revolutionary way of transportation “Hyperloop”. The system should provide the ability to travel at a record speed for minimum cost and minimal energy expenditure. The action plan of Hyperloop will be published on August 12th. Critical feedback for improvement would be appreciated from the technical experts and general public. The Hyperloop could resemble the device developed by the American company ET3. ET3 credit the fifth means of transport. The billionaire founder of electric carmaker Tesla Motors and private space exploration company SpaceX, published a 57-page document describing the project, which could connect Los Angeles San Francisco in 35 minutes. "Hyperloop consists of a low pressure tube with capsules, carried in low and high speeds along the length of the tube" explains the document. "The capsules are placed on pressurized air cushion", it added.

According to Musk, the transport system should be able to reach a speed of 1220 km / h and would be economically viable for any less than 1500 km link. And it is less vulnerable to earthquakes and accidents. During a conference call Monday, Mr. Musk spoke of "a new form of transportation, different from traditional train that would carry passengers and goods in its capsules in a tube mounted on pylons." "It is designed to be super light, while trains are incredibly heavy. This is more like a plane," he said. The feeling on board would be close to that of "an airplane. That would be sweet, like flying on the air." The billionaires ensure that its system is less vulnerable to earthquakes and less prone to accidents than the train or plane "because it cannot crush or derail." The project will greatly resembles the one imagined by ET3. Musk has repeatedly described the Hyperloop as "halfway between the Concorde, the electric gun and air hockey table”. It is similar with the following working examples; Concorde for speed, the electric gun as an example for propulsion and Air Hockey for travel conditions. Last Monday he unveiled the concept that has been developed by teams from Tesla and SpaceX and is based on technology developed in the two companies. It provides for a version of the electric motors used on the Tesla S model cars, which would create an electromagnetic field to propel the capsule.

The system is "halfway between the Concorde, the electric gun and air hockey table" - Elon Musk. The high pressure air between the walls of the inserted tube and the capsule creates a cushion of air with in the capsules allowing moving without friction. The air in the tube between each capsule prevents possible collisions. Thus eliminating friction force which can slow the vehicle, we are left with travel conditions similar to those found in orbit. Elon Musk therefore wants to start building a prototype capable of connecting Los Angeles to San Francisco in 30 minutes. Either shuttle launched at 1100 km / h. Modest, as already dreaming of trips New York-Los Angeles in 45 minutes or New York to Beijing in 2 hours. Other advantages are Hyperloop would be protected from the weather. No turbulence due to bad weather or stop on the way due to snow or rain and flood. In addition, the capsules are inserted into the tube and powered on demand. That is to say that traveler could leave at any time without imposed schedule as for the train or plane. Musk also said that the main power is generated by solar panels placed directly onto the structure, making the network self-sufficient in energy.

Especially they consume very lesser energy. "What we want is a system where there are never any accidents, which is at least two times faster than a plane, which is powered by solar energy, and share as soon as you arrive, so that there is no waiting time nor accurate. “Said Elon Musk in September. Mr. Musk, opposite the high-speed train between Los Angeles and San Francisco - the construction of the first section has been approved by the authorities - believes that the project is much more economical. It estimates the cost of the link between the two cities to 6 billion - against 70-billion for the train - and anticipates the one-way price of $ 20 per passenger which is very cheap. Elon Musk has repeatedly stated that he did not intend to develop the project by them self, but could reconsider their decision, at least in part. "I tried to create at least one demonstrator," he acknowledged Monday. "I'm not trying to make tons of money with it, but I'd like the project and wish to make it into a reality and I think it would help if I was a model."
