Reports has emerged that Microsoft is actively working a light weight version of its own Windows 10 OS in a bid to counter the ver growing popularity of the Chrome OS. Microsoft has named its light version as Windows 10 Cloud which will in the beginning will only offer support to the Unified Windows Platform or UWP app downloaded from the Windows Store. Some people are also calling this gimmick as a comeback for the Windows RT version and it will also helps Windows in boosting the amount of apps on its App Store.

Eye on the educational market

Chrome OS popularity is extremely high in the educational markets wherein educational institutions finds it as an affordable way of bringing technology to the young learners. Chrome OS relies heavily on the web based apps to bring variety of applications and usability for the users. It has been favored in the educational markets due to its light, fast and efficient operating system and Windows 10 Cloud will be Microsoft to Chrome dominance.

Microsoft has earlier launched the ill-fated Microsoft RT on the Surface tablets and it had an ARM based OS which only ran apps specifically built for this OS. It sounds lot like Chrome OS but it failed spectacularly due to the lack abundant as well as essential apps for the Windows RT. In similar fashion Microsoft is trying to rebrand its RT as Windows 10 Cloud as it name states this OS  will be powered by the Cloud as well as it will run on Cloud. This new OS is expected to take advantage of the Microsoft homegrown cloud based platform called Azure to run the apps.

Microsoft Windows 10 Cloud isn’t a surprise

It has been speculated that Windows will be launching a new edition of the Windows operating system in past couple of weeks. Some of the users have stated that it will be called Cloud SKU and they were very close but it was a Twitter user called The Walking Cat which brought the original screenshot of the Windows 10 for PCs with the Build number 15003. It also shows a reference to ‘Cloud’ or ‘CloudN’ which specifically denotes whether the version comes with Media Player pre-installed or not.

Microsoft has simply stayed away from confirming any news or updates related to the Windows 10 Cloud. But it is being widely believed that Microsoft will be launching the Windows 10 Cloud in the annual Build conference for developers in May. This move of bringing a lite version of the Windows OS to larger audience which can easily run on low specification based machines in future will certainly help in enhancing the market penetration and reach of the Microsoft. But such OS can also fail if Microsoft isn’t able to bring large amount of quality within a short succession.

Microsoft HoloLens was launched about two years ago but it was available only for the enterprise users or for those who can afford it for research purposes. Microsoft has been right on top of the augmented and virtual reality frenzy since the time of its inception as it wanted to position as the Next Big Thing in the consumer electronic market. Microsoft released the HoloLens among much fanfare and critical acclaim years ago but it was available only for the developers and enterprises with limited numbers, application support coupled with a massive $3000 price tag.

When Microsoft first launched the HoloLens in 2015 it was positioned more as a set of software applications, AI as well as operating system rather than just being a headset. Nissan Offers Cheap Hybrid Electric Cars

Google is Killing Its Experimental Hands Free Payment App

From March of last year, Google has been testing a new payment method that enables customers to pay for goods with their smartphones without touching it! This new innovation was aptly named Hands Free.

Google’s pilot app Hands Free was currently in its early stages of testing limited to only a handful of businesses in the San Francisco Bay Area.

What is Hands Free?

Hands Free is an app developed by Google that lets you check-out in stores without actually using your wallet or phone. This app was available to download for free on for android systems on Play Store and for iOS on Apple Store.

How does it work? 

Hands Free uses Bluetooth, Wifi and location services to detect whether you are near a participating store. When you have bought the things you want and are ready to check-out, all you need to do is tell the cashier “I’ll pay with Google”. The hands free profile will contain your photo identity and signature using which the cashier will then confirm your identity. The cashier will charge you only when Hands Free detects your Phone is near the store. Thus there is no need for you to take out your phone or even launch the app!

Why is it being Shut Down?

Google’s innovative experiment got its life cut down short by the latest announcement of it being shut down on 8th of February this year by Google itself. Official statement released by Google states that from the first launching of the pilot program, they were able to collect and learn a lot about the possible effects of the app from its adopters. This information along with numerous positive feedbacks would be used to develop a better version of hands Free that would be available to a larger number of people and stores. To focus their efforts on the new Hand’s Free, the current pilot version is being shut down.

With that being said, there is no definite time as to when the improved Hands Free would be out so similar alternatives like “Android pay” which offers easy and quick check-outs can be used. All the user information like pictures and signatures uploaded would be deleted to uphold the privacy of the users. Lack of Cyber Security Poses Threat to Modern Cars

Cars have evolved so much from being a machine only used for transportation to an all-round smart transport system, integrated with accurate navigation, music and cameras. But as all good things have their own vulnerabilities, equipping cars with accessible technology risks the danger of it being hacked. All cars manufactured in EU should be connected via emergency Call (eCall) services by the month of April in 2018. However these simple mobile devices are not built strong enough to keep away hackers and malicious programs. The government needs to reevaluate their policy that prevents car manufacturers from providing extended support to car software, security and firmware updates. The implementation of the update, which is done via the internet or by a USB stick, should also be reviewed as the UDB device can hold back all kinds of information.

A broader approach could be taken by governments, dealers and insurers in spreading knowledge and information about cyber security. Information Sharing and Analysis Centre (ISAC) established in the United States have taken an aggressive step to stop Cyber-crimes. All parties within the ISAC share information and experiences regarding Cyber-attacks, which Europe can learn from and adapt.

The ICT structures of the modern day cars needs to be completely revamped to ensure customer safety. With the incidents of hacking becoming more frequent, it is necessary to implement measures as soon as possible.

At the University of Washington in St. Louis a group of researchers have taken instances of a laser that generates an optical shock where a Mach cone is being equivalent to a sonic boom, only for light. The new software that is developed by Dr. Shmueli and Alona Levy, who is his student, in association with Professor Yuval Elovici from BGU, Department of Software and Information Systems Engineering along with his student Ben Nassi is capable of developing any common smartwatch into a remarkable verifier of signatures.

The technology is devised in such a way that it utilizes motion data, i.e. the wrist movement of a person with the help of an accelerometer or a gyroscope, that identifies the process of signing and helps to verify that whether the signature is genuine or fake.

This smartwatch is obviously a much preferable signature verifier in comparison to other devices, since it verifies the entire movement of your wrist than only basing the verification in terms with your arm or finger. From several years experiment in this field have been developed to base this system of verifying signature using motion data but its application has been fed for the first time in this newly manufactured smartwatch.

A rigorous test has also been taken to verify the efficiency of the device on 66 TAU undergraduates. All the students who were wearing smartwatches were asked to provide 15 samples of their signature on a tablet, using its digital pen. Then these students were shown certain video clips and were asked to figure out the signatures.

They were given sufficient time but yet they could not figure out the original signatures. There results were full of forgery. On the other hand, the smart watch has developed to become more smart in terms of its accuracy to verify signatures proved itself by providing top-notch accuracy in verifying signatures without any fallacies.

How does the delivery system work? 

These automated robots can deliver light substances within a radius of 3 kilometers (2 miles). The delivery charges are kept within 1 dollar or less and the delivery is done within 15 to 30 minutes of the order. The robot avoids main streets while delivering and only moves through sidewalks and the consumers get a notification alerting the arrival of their goods through smartphone app. Starship intends to provide an easy delivery system so that elderly and handicapped people does not have to move around much. Delivery by robots also ensures that there are less cars and vans on roads which can lead to several beneficial effects.

How are they beneficial? 

Several retail giants like Amazon have made use of drones to deliver products. These delivery robots however are less expensive to build and maintain and does not have as many regulatory issues as the drone has. Although the robot moves a speed of four miles (six kilometers) per hour which is a lot slower than the drone, it provides a more economical and efficient delivery system. The delivery robot might have an advantage over urban demographic while the drones are suited better for rural and remote areas.

The Starship delivery robots are small but can carry loads over 20 pounds (9 kilograms) in weight. The one advantage they provide is their fast delivery and hence they do not need chilling and heating compartments, according to Starship Technology Spokesperson Harris-Burland. Customers can take the items from the robot as it does not have the ability to drop or leave the items.

LG Sends Out Invites for G6 Event on February 26

LG electronics is all set to unveil its G6 in an international event on 26th February. This leading mega tech company has already sent out invites for this much yearned event to take place a day ahead of the Mobile World Congress. LG electronics has sent its invitations for the launch of its flagship phone, G6. The company is confident about the success of this much awaited event. This South Korean tech giant will unveil its new mobile in Barcelona, on 26th February just a day before the mega mobile tradeshow starts.

Invitations sent for launch of this flagship mobile 

The invitation card features the design of fireworks at night above a lake with the heading, ‘See more play more’. The card was smartly designed in the screen ratio of G6 itself. A LG spokesman remarked that the card was specifically designed to highlight the phone’s new UXs. LG display which creates and supplies the displays for all LG models has remarked that the new phone will feature the new QHD+ display. The phone features the technology which capitalizes on the long screen and will have a 564 PPI resolution. Moreover, another interesting facet of the phone is that it will feature a heat pipe which will prevent the phone from overheating. To ensure the safety of its users the model has gone through numerous quality checks prior to the announcement of its launch.

LG considers this new flagship mobile launch to be a major milestone for their company and thus have started sending early invitations for the media for this important press event. The invitation being designed in the outline of the Smartphone itself shows the confidence and faith that the company holds on this new flagship event. As per 3D Renders, one common feature will be the standard 3.5 mm jack. A recent LG teaser also hints that the phone will have a larger display and will be waterproof.

This means that the phone is expected to offer us with a larger 5.7 inch display. Due to the underwhelming sales of its earlier G5 model, it is believed that LG G6 will be a bounce back for the company. LG G5 in spite of featuring a host of new accessories and a modular design could not please the mind of its users, and was considered to be a flop model.
